🩺💊HYPERTENSION(High Blood Pressure)
High blood pressure also known as Hypertension is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.
Blood pressure is determined both by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure.
You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues and can be detected. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack, stroke, vision loss, sexual dysfunction & kidney failure.
High blood pressure generally develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected. And once you know you have high blood pressure, you can work with your doctor to control it.
✅SYMPTOMS:
Most people with high blood pressure have no signs or symptoms, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels.
A few people with high blood pressure may have headaches, shortness of breath or nosebleeds, but these signs and symptoms aren't specific and usually don't occur until high blood pressure has reached a severe or life-threatening stage.
✅CAUSES:
Here are some of the main causes:
*Primary Hypertension*
1. *Genetics*: Family history and genetic predisposition can play a significant role.
2. *Age*: Blood pressure tends to rise with age.
3. *Lifestyle factors*: Sedentary lifestyle, physical inactivity, and poor diet (high sodium, low potassium) contribute to hypertension.
4. *Obesity*: Excess weight, particularly around the waistline, increases the risk.
5. *Stress*: Chronic stress can raise blood pressure.
*Secondary Hypertension*
1. *Kidney disease*: Kidney damage or disease can lead to hypertension.
2. *Sleep apnea*: Pauses in breathing during sleep can increase blood pressure.
3. *Adrenal gland tumors*: Certain tumors can cause an overproduction of hormones, leading to hypertension.
4. *Thyroid problems*: An underactive or overactive thyroid gland can contribute to hypertension.
5. *Medications*: Certain medications, such as birth control pills, decongestants, and some antidepressants, can raise blood pressure.
6. *Pregnancy*: High blood pressure can occur during pregnancy, especially in women with pre-existing hypertension.
7. *Coarctation of the aorta*: A narrowing of the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the heart, can cause hypertension.
*Other Factors*
1. *Sodium sensitivity*: Some people are more sensitive to the blood-pressure-raising effects of sodium.
2. *Potassium deficiency*: Low potassium levels can contribute to hypertension.
3. *Vitamin D deficiency*: Research suggests that vitamin D deficiency may be linked to hypertension.
4. *Environmental toxins*: Exposure to certain environmental toxins, such as lead and cadmium, has been linked to hypertension.
