Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 deployment!

Last week in , Manicaland, our Progress Success Mahureva represented Dawa Health, where we were selected for deployment support under Zimbabwe's AI Grand Challenge; a flagship initiative of the National AI Strategy by the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Zimbabwe, themed "AI for Impact."

Walking away with access to the Potraz deployment and testing sandbox, plus initial deployment capital to scale our platform to patients will be catalytic.

Sandboxes are where innovation earns the right to scale: regulatory clarity, real infrastructure, and a controlled environment to prove safety and clinical value that support integration with on-ground systems.

Our thesis stays the same: AI-enabled diagnostics with a human clinician layer, accelerating screening to minutes from days using machine learning. Caught early, the conditions that frighten families most are treatable.

We were honored to have our work, supported by UNICEFinnovation, Grand Challenges Canada, TogetHER for Health, and The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation selected for a stage presentation at this year's Biomedical Engineering Association Of zambia Symposium Expo.

During the symposium, our team presented both the scientific methodology behind the development of the platform and our vision for the next phase of scaling the solution across .

This recognition is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to improving maternal, women, and child health outcomes through technology.

We showcased the latest version of our cervical cancer screening tool at BongoHive AI Lab’s AI Show & Tell in Lusaka.

Our newest breakthrough: a fully offline AI model embedded on Arduino UnoQ and Raspberry Pi 5 devices, enabling cervical cancer screening in under 3 minutes without internet connectivity—designed for underserved communities across Africa.

A big thank you to Dr. Richa Tiwari, Google Research, and BongoHive AI Lab for their support. We were also inspired by the incredible innovations being built across Zambia’s growing AI ecosystem.

🚀 Big moment for the Dawa Health technical team!

Last Friday, our team: Tariro Munzwa (Software Engineer), Khanyisile Tapiwa Magagula (ML Engineer), Tafadzwa Kalisto Munzwa (Clinical Lead), and George P**e (Biomedical Engineer) — had the opportunity to present our cervical cancer screening tool at BongoHive AI Lab's second AI Show & Tell, held at BongoHive Coworking in Lusaka.

A huge thank you to Richa Tiwari, PhD and the Google Research team for their continued support on this journey.

Our latest model, fine-tuned for , has now been quantized and embedded onto Arduino and Raspberry Pi 5 microcontrollers; enabling fully offline, local inference in under 3 minutes. This technical breakthrough made our solution practical for the real-world realities of underserved communities across Sub-Saharan Africa.

We were equally inspired by the other builders who took the stage, with live demos from Lucid AI, FigureFlow, Crediflo Lite, Zed News, the ASD Clinical Screening Console, and other emerging AI innovations coming out of .

Events like this give local builders a platform to share their work, exchange ideas, and strengthen Zambia's growing AI ecosystem.

We are proud to celebrate an important milestone in Dawa Health's journey in .

Over the past year, Dawa Health has conducted extensive market research and successfully piloted the platform in Zimbabwe. Through our collaboration with Dr. Nyasha Manyeruke and her team, we have gained valuable insights into the needs of women, healthcare providers, and communities, while building a strong evidence base for scale.

We are especially thrilled that this work was recently presented at the University of Oxford, where it received the Best Presenter Award at the Africa Oxford Initiative Symposium's 10th Anniversary Celebration. This recognition reflects the dedication, innovation, and collaborative spirit of everyone involved in advancing women's health through technology.

As we move from research and pilot implementation into the next phase, we are excited to begin scaling DawaMom's impact across Zimbabwe, bringing AI-powered maternal and women's health solutions closer to the communities that need them most.

Dawa Health is honored and grateful to be part of the inaugural cohort under the UNICEFinnovation Office.

During the on-boarrding week in , South Africa, we joined 10 other inspiring startups from across Africa and Asia, all united by a shared mission: leveraging technology to improve health, wellbeing, and opportunities for girls and women.

As we continue scaling our AI-powered maternal and women's health solutions across and , this experience provided invaluable opportunities to learn, collaborate, and exchange ideas with fellow founders who are tackling some of the world's most pressing challenges through open-source innovation.

A heartfelt thank you to UNICEF Office of Innovation, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Temasek Foundation for creating a space where bold ideas, meaningful partnerships, and impactful solutions can thrive.
