In 1912, a 22-year-old Black man named Isaac was attacked by a white mob in Georgia. They beat him, shot him, and buried him in a shallow grave. They thought he was dead.

Isaac was not dead. He woke up at midnight. He dug for 4 hours. His fingers bled. His shoulder was broken.

He crawled out at 4 a.m. He walked 10 miles to the nearest town. A Black family hid him in their barn.

Isaac fled Georgia. He moved to Chicago. He became a preacher.

He preached for 50 years. His sermon was always the same: “They buried me. God raised me. Whatever is burying you, God can raise that too.”

Isaac never returned to Georgia. He died in 1962. His last words: “I am not afraid of the grave. I have already been in one. It is not so bad if you have someone to dig you out.”

His son became a pastor. His grandson became a pastor. His great-grandson is a pastor today. They all preach the same sermon.

Trapped MUMBWA Miners Found Alive After 17 Days

Five miners who were trapped underground for 17 days at MATALA Gold Mine in Nangoma Constituency in MUMBWA District have been rescued alive.

The miners were trapped underground on May 3, 2026.

Mines Permanent Secretary, HAPENGA KABETA, confirmed the rescue of the miners today.

Dr. KABETA said unconfirmed reports suggest that three other miners could still be underground, adding that investigations are continuing.

He said the rescued miners are in stable condition and are undergoing medical examinations at Mumbwa District Hospital.

Dr. KABETA said the government is pleased that the rescue mission was successful and thanked the community and rescue teams for their support during the operation.

MATALA Gold Mine has been non-operational for more than two years.
