[ IN PICTURE] THABO KAWANA CONGRATULATES EX-WIFE ON HER ADMISSION TO THE BAR

Thabo Kawana has congratulated his ex-wife and the mother of his children, Ms. Ilyamupu Mushota, on being admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Zambia.

In a congratulatory message, Kawana acknowledged the dedication and sacrifices required to achieve the milestone, highlighting the long nights of studying and the commitment that often meant missing social, family, and official engagements.

“Life is about setting goals and achieving them. We know what it takes for one to be called to the Bar—the late nights studying, burning the midnight oil, and staying away from social, family, and official functions because of demanding study schedules.

This is why we take time to say a big congratulations to my ex-wife and mother of our children, Ms. Ilyamupu Mushota. It is indeed a well-deserved achievement to be called as an Advocate of the High Court of Zambia.

Well done, Counsel Mushota.”

The message was signed by Mr. and Mrs. Kawana, together with the children.

IG Order the Arrest of Political Violence Suspects, Launch Review of Mongu Operation.

The Zambia Police Service has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in recent incidents of political violence in Shibuyunji, Livingstone and Luampa districts, while also launching a comprehensive review of a controversial public order operation in Mongu and Kalabo districts.

In a statement issued today, Inspector General of Police Graphel C. Musamba condemned the violence, describing it as a threat to Zambia's democratic process and warning that those responsible would face the full force of the law regardless of their political affiliation.

"The Zambia Police Service strongly condemns these acts of violence and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order before, during and after the 2026 General Election," Mr.Musamba said.

The directive comes amid heightened political activity as Zambia moves closer to the 2026 General Election, with isolated incidents of violence raising concerns over electoral security.

Mr.Musamba said he had instructed commanding officers in the affected districts to ensure that every individual linked to the violent incidents is apprehended and brought before the courts without delay.

"No individual should imagine that political affiliation provides immunity from criminal prosecution. Anyone found wanting will face the full force of the law," he stated.

The Police Chief also aligned the Service with President Hakainde Hichilema's recent warning against political violence, reaffirming the government's position that violence, intimidation and lawlessness by any political party, candidate or supporter would not be tolerated.

At the same time, the Zambia Police Service announced an internal review of its crowd control and public order management operation conducted during the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance campaign rally in Mongu and Kalabo districts, where officers discharged tear smoke.

According to Mr.Musamba, the review will assess both the conduct of police officers during the operation and the disorderly behaviour allegedly exhibited by some political supporters.

The inquiry aims to determine whether officers acted within the legal framework governing public order management and adhered to the professional standards expected of the Zambia Police Service.

The findings, he said, will guide any action deemed necessary.

The Police Service also dismissed social media reports claiming that a person died during the Mongu operation, describing the reports as false.

"No death was recorded in connection with the operation," Mr. Musamba said, urging members of the public to disregard misinformation and rely only on verified information released through official Zambia Police Service communication channels.

As election campaigns intensify, the Inspector General appealed to political parties, candidates, supporters and the general public to reject violence and uphold the rule of law.

He said the Zambia Police Service remains committed to creating a safe, secure and conducive electoral environment that allows all political players to campaign.
