HABITS & CONSISTENCY

A man does not become disciplined by planning to be disciplined. He becomes disciplined by repeatedly doing what he said he would do.

Most of us plan our habits and leave the results to chance.

We keep searching for the perfect routine, the perfect program, the perfect strategy and the perfect time to start.

“What is the fastest way to lose weight?”

“What is the best program to build muscle?”

“What is the perfect morning routine?”

We research.
We plan.
We strategize.
We watch videos.
We read books.

But we don’t act.

We confuse being in motion with taking action.

Motion makes you feel productive because you are doing something—but it doesn’t always produce results.

Action is different.

Action is going to the gym.
Action is doing the workout.
Action is eating differently.
Action is reading the first page.
Action is making the first call.
Action is showing up again tomorrow.

You don’t master a habit by getting everything right from day one.

You master it through repetition.

Start before you feel ready.
Start before you have the perfect plan.
Start small enough that you can repeat it.

As Voltaire said:

“The best is the enemy of the good.”

Don’t allow the search for perfection to become an excuse for inaction.

Awaken the man in you—not through what you intend to do, but through what you repeatedly do.

HABITS & ASSOCIATIONS

You can make a difficult habit more attractive by learning to associate it with a positive experience.

Sometimes, all you need is a slight mindset shift.

You “have to” wake up early for work.
You “have to” make sales for your business.
You “have to” cook for yourself or your family.
You “have to” exercise.

The words “I have to” can make a task feel like an obligation—as if something is being forced upon you.

Now try changing it to:

“I get to.”

“I get to wake up early and work toward my goals.”
“I get to make sales and grow my business.”
“I get to cook and take care of myself and my family.”
“I get to exercise and build my body.”

Suddenly, the same activity feels different.

You are no longer focusing on the burden of the habit. You are focusing on the benefit and opportunity behind it.

Instead of telling yourself:

“I need to go for a run this morning.”

Tell yourself:

“It’s time to build endurance and get faster.”

The habit hasn’t changed.
Your association with the habit has changed.

This is the principle of making habits more attractive: reframe your habits to highlight their benefits rather than their drawbacks.

You may not always control what you have to do, but you can control how you choose to see it.

And sometimes, changing the way you see a habit is the first step toward changing your behavior.

Getting Rid of Bad Habits:

Self-Control vs Environment

When it comes to getting rid of bad habits, we often rely too heavily on self-control.

We tell ourselves:

“I’ll control myself. I won’t scroll TikTok aimlessly for five hours tonight.”

But words alone don’t change our behavior.

One of the things we often forget is that you cannot depend on self-control while constantly surrounding yourself with cues that trigger the very habit you are trying to break.

Your environment matters.

If you want to quit a bad habit, don’t only change your intentions—change the environment that supports the habit.

You don’t necessarily have to move to a new place. Sometimes, you simply need to reposition the things around you.

For example, if you don’t want to spend hours scrolling on your phone before bed, don’t keep your phone beside your pillow.

Put your charger several metres away from your bed. When you want to reach for your phone, you’ll have to get up and use physical effort to access it.

Then replace the phone with something that supports the habit you want to build—perhaps a book that you read every night before sleeping.

The goal is to make the bad habit harder and the good habit easier.

Remember:

Self-control is useful, but environment is powerful.

You may not completely erase an old habit from your brain, especially if you’ve repeated it for a long time. But by changing the cues and environment that trigger it, you can make it easier to resist until a new pattern becomes stronger.

Don’t always ask:

“How can I control myself?”

Sometimes, the better question is:

“How can I design my environment so I don’t have to fight myself every time?”

Change the environment.

Change the cues.

Change the behavior.

HOW YOUR ENVIRONMENT SHAPES YOUR BEHAVIOUR

We often think our environment is simply made up of objects and spaces.

But there is something deeper happening.

Over time, your mind begins to associate certain spaces with certain behaviours.

Your bedroom can become associated with sleeping.

Your office with working.

Your gym with exercising.

Your couch with watching movies.

Your kitchen with eating.

This means your behaviour is not only influenced by what is around you, but by the relationship you have developed with what is around you.

The same couch can be a reading space for one person and a movie-watching space for another.

Same object. Different relationship. Different behaviour.

This is why you should stop asking:

“What objects are in my environment?”

And start asking:

“What behaviours does my environment encourage me to perform?”

The good news is that you can intentionally train your mind to associate certain spaces with certain behaviours.

ONE SPACE. ONE USE.

If you want to make reading a habit, create a specific reading space.

Find a chair in a quiet corner and make that your reading and writing chair.

Don’t use it for scrolling social media or watching movies.

Over time, your mind begins to recognize:

“When I sit here, I read.”

You can do the same with other habits.

Want to exercise before showering?

Make it a routine:

Shower → 10 push-ups → 20 squats.

After repeating this consistently, the act of preparing to shower can become a cue that it’s time to move your body.

Your environment can either fight your habits or reinforce them.

So don’t just organize your environment for appearance.

Design it for behaviour.

Because the mind becomes conditioned by what we repeatedly expose it to and how we repeatedly interact with it.

Design the space.
Shape the behaviour.
Build the man.

ENVIRONMENT DESIGN

Your environment is constantly influencing your behaviour.

The people around you.
What you see.
What you hear.
What is easily accessible.
What you repeatedly expose yourself to.

If you don’t intentionally design your environment, your environment will design you.

Take back control.

Don’t merely be a consumer of your world—be the architect of it.

Design your surroundings to make the person you want to become easier to become.

You don’t just need more willpower.
Sometimes, you need a better environment.

Design your world.
Design your habits.
Design your life.

HOW TO START A NEW HABIT

1. MAKE IT OBVIOUS

If you want to build a new habit, don’t depend entirely on motivation.

Connect the new habit to something you already do.

Think of your existing habits as anchors.

For example:

☀️ After I wake up, I will spend 5 minutes planning my day.

🪥 After I brush my teeth, I will read 2 pages of a book.

☕ After I have my morning tea, I will review my goals.

🌙 After I get into bed, I will write down what I learned that day.

The idea is simple:

Take something you already do consistently and use it as a reminder for the behaviour you want to develop.

This makes the new habit easier to remember because it has a place in your existing routine.

You don’t have to completely redesign your life.

Start by attaching one small behaviour to something you already do.

Then repeat it.

Over time, what required conscious effort can become part of who you naturally are.

Build the habit. Build the identity. Build the man.

WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN GOOD HABITS?

One reason is that we were conditioned from childhood to focus more on outcomes than processes.

Think about school.

We were praised for getting good grades, but rarely taught to pay attention to the process that produced those grades.

The question was:

“What grade did you get?”

More than:

“What kind of student are you becoming through your daily habits?”

This gradually develops an outcome-based mindset.

And then we grow up expecting immediate results from almost everything we do.

But habits work differently.

Goals are outcome-based.
Habits are process-based.

A goal says:

“I want to lose 10 kg.”

A habit says:

“I am becoming someone who exercises and takes care of his body.”

A goal says:

“I want to become financially successful.”

A habit says:

“I am becoming someone who learns, creates value, manages money and invests consistently.”

This is why maintaining good habits can be difficult.

We often judge the habit by the result it produces today, instead of the person it is shaping over time.

You exercise for a week and don’t see much change.

You read for a month and don’t feel much smarter.

You save money for months and still don’t feel wealthy.

So you become discouraged and quit.

But the real transformation is happening beneath the surface.

Every repeated action is casting a vote for the person you are becoming.

So instead of constantly asking:

“What am I getting from this habit?”

Start asking:

“Who am I becoming by consistently doing this?”

Don’t become obsessed with the immediate outcome.

Pay attention to the trajectory.

Because your habits are not merely changing what you do.

They are changing who you are.

VALUE CREATES WEALTH

One principle every man should take seriously:

If you want to increase your income, focus on increasing the value you bring.

In the marketplace, money is often exchanged for value.

You solve a problem → you create value.
You create value → people are willing to pay.
You consistently create more value → your earning potential can increase.

Jim Rohn famously taught that we are not simply paid for the hours we spend, but for the value we bring during those hours.

This is why constantly chasing money can become frustrating.

Instead of asking:

“How can I get more money?”

Start asking:

“How can I become more valuable?”

Develop better skills.
Improve your knowledge.
Build discipline.
Learn to solve bigger problems.
Become reliable.
Understand people.
Create solutions.

Don’t make money your obsession.

Make becoming valuable your obsession.

When you consistently add value to your marketplace, you position yourself to capture a portion of that value through income, profits, opportunities, ownership, and dividends.

Don’t chase the money.

Build the man who can attract it by the value he creates.

WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY?

By definition according to Dictionary, Identity is defined as the set of qualities, beliefs, personality traits, and expressions that make a person or group who they are.

The Word Identity is derived from 2 Latin words which are
- *“essentitas”* meaning *“being”* and
- *”Identidem”* meaning *”Repeatedly”*.
Which concludes to say , your Identity is relatively your *“repeated beingness”*.

Your Identity emerges out of your habits, every belief including those of yourself is learned and conditioned through experience.

The more you repeat a behavior, the more you re-enforce the identity associated with that behavior.

Funny part is that people can not tell you your identity because we mask our identities when we are in front of people, we act in a way that will portray good behavior of which we are not.
You are the only person who can tell your own identity.

2030 is coming, start a new habit that will leverage you and bring you closer to your purpose.
Start today, start Now.

What is your identity?.
