Studying the Bible Made Simple Prophetess Tino
Saul and the Medium at Endor (1 Samuel 28)
King Saul’s visit to the medium at Endor is one of the saddest stories in the Bible.
The Philistines were preparing to attack Israel, and Saul was afraid. The Bible says his heart trembled greatly. He sought guidance from God, but God did not answer him through dreams, prophets, or the Urim.
The problem was not that God had never spoken to Saul. God had spoken many times through the prophet Samuel. Saul’s problem was disobedience. He had repeatedly rejected God’s instructions and refused to truly repent.
Instead of returning to God, Saul turned to a medium a woman who claimed to communicate with the dead. This was something God had clearly forbidden.
Ironically, Saul had once removed mediums and spiritists from Israel. Yet when fear gripped him, he ran to the very thing he had publicly condemned.
When the woman attempted to call up Samuel, she was shocked by what happened. She cried out in fear. This shows that Samuel did not appear because of her power. God Himself allowed Samuel to appear.
Samuel’s message was not a new revelation. He simply repeated what God had already said: Saul had lost the kingdom because of disobedience, and judgment was coming. Israel would be defeated, and Saul and his sons would die.
Saul went looking for comfort but found judgment.
Lessons from Saul’s Mistake
1. Fear is a dangerous guide.
When fear leads us instead of faith, we can make choices that take us away from God.
2. God’s silence is not permission to disobey.
If God seems silent, we must continue trusting and obeying His Word.
3. Never seek answers in forbidden places.
4. Obedience is better than desperation.
Saul wanted direction without repentance and guidance without obedience.
5. God’s Word is enough.
We do not need to search in darkness for answers when God has already spoken through His Word and through Jesus Christ.
Christ Revealed
Saul was a king ruled by fear, but Jesus is the true King who perfectly obeyed the Father.
Saul led himself into darkness, but Jesus leads His people in truth.
Saul sought forbidden power, but Jesus trusted completely in God.
Jesus is our King, our High Priest, and our Shepherd. He guides us safely through every season of life.
Key Verse
“To obey is better than sacrifice.”
1 Samuel 15:22
Final Thought
Saul sought Samuel in the darkness, but what he truly needed was to obey God in the light.
When life becomes confusing, do not run to darkness for answers. Run to Christ. He is the Light, the Truth, and the Way.
