At Epworth Overspill Clinic in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Tremont witnessed this U.S.-developed health innovation in action. Lenacapavir is removing barriers to HIV prevention โ”€ with more convenience and privacy โ”€ and continuing to control the spread of HIV in Zimbabwe.

As we join the Ministry of Health and Child Care to introduce Gilead Sciences U.S.-developed lenacapavir, a twice-yearly injectable that is 96% effective in preventing HIV infections, we welcome continued collaboration to build Zimbabwean ownership of Zimbabwean health outcomes. The American people have provided $2.2 billion in global health assistance to Zimbabwe since 2004, saving lives and strengthening Zimbabwean health systems. Together we are building a healthier future, powered by American innovation and shared accountability.

Building on decades of progress made by the United States and Zimbabwe in the fight against HIV and AIDS, the United States is providing American innovation lenacapavir (LEN) to the government of Zimbabwe. LEN is a groundbreaking HIV prevention innovation developed by American scientists at Gilead Sciencesโ€”designed to make protection from HIV simpler, more private, and easier to stay on track with just two doses every six months.

Speaking at the national launch, Deputy Chief of Mission Phil Nervig highlighted how this world-class American innovation is driving meaningful progress toward an HIV-free generation. We are proud to bring this American breakthrough to communities across Zimbabwe. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿค

We are excited to announce that our efforts to expand HIV testing services in Zimbabwe are now reaching new heights in Matabeleland North. With the generous support of The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funding through the CDC, collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Child Care we are deepening our work in Matabeleland North to ensure that more children, especially those who have been previously missed, receive vital HIV testing.

Working closely with local partners and stakeholders, including Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) groups, we are hosting district meetings across the province to reinforce the importance of HIV testing for children. These collaborative efforts are critical to ensuring that no child is left behind in the fight against HIV.

Early diagnosis is essential for better health outcomes, and together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of children in Matabeleland North and beyond.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting U.S. Ambassador Pamela M. Tremont at Marondera Provincial Hospital. The Ambassador toured our HIV Care and Treatment program, gaining a firsthand appreciation of the comprehensive services we provide to people living with HIV (PLHIV).

Zim-TTECH with funding from The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the CDC is proud to support the Ministry of Health and Child Care in delivering essential HIV prevention programs, testing, and linkage to services. Our efforts focus on retaining PLHIV in care for sustained viral load suppression, improving their quality of life, and supporting PMTCT (Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission).
