Zimbabwe Commemorates the 24th African Traditional Medicine Day

On 31 August 2026, members of the 23rd Chinese Medical Team in Zimbabwe participated in the 24th African Traditional Medicine Day commemoration in Marondera, joining local healthcare professionals and traditional medicine practitioners to promote exchanges and mutual learning between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Zimbabwean traditional medicine.

Hunan Chinese Medical Team Spreads Love in Zimbabwe for Chinese Doctor’s Day

To mark the 2026 Chinese Doctor’s Day, the 23rd Chinese medical team from Hunan is working at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe, focusing on clinical treatment, medical training, grassroots clinics and cultural exchange.

The multidisciplinary team covers TCM, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, general surgery and radiology.
TCM doctors Peng Jie and Li Xuankong use acupuncture, tuina and moxibustion to ease chronic pain for local residents.
Hou Can standardizes hypertension and diabetes management with personalized plans and follow-ups. Liao Shiyu treats respiratory infections and optimizes emergency care guidelines.
Xue Lixia cares for high-risk pregnant women to ensure maternal and infant safety. Chen Yanliang performs delicate orthopedic surgeries to avoid amputations for trauma patients. Yang Zhao manages acute abdominal and surgical emergencies under limited medical conditions. Cao Wang delivers accurate imaging diagnosis to lower misdiagnosis risks.

The team offers hands-on training and case discussions to pass on advanced medical skills, fostering local medical talent. They also hold free clinics in rural and mining areas, providing check-ups, free medicine and health education for remote communities.

Meanwhile, the doctors promote TCM culture and the "preventive treatment" concept, acting as cultural bridges between China and Zimbabwe.

With professionalism and devotion, the Hunan medical workers safeguard local health, boost bilateral health cooperation and deepen China-Zimbabwe friendship on this special festival.

Doctor Devotes Himself to China-Africa Medical Assistance on Chinese Doctors' Day

On the occasion of Chinese Doctors’ Day, Dr. Hou Can, a physician from the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and a member of the 23rd Chinese Medical Team dispatched from Hunan to Zimbabwe, continues to guard local people’s health across thousands of miles in Zimbabwe.

Working at the Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, Dr. Hou has been committed to clinical treatment and localized medical assistance. Facing the high prevalence of chronic metabolic diseases and insufficient standardized medical management in Zimbabwe, she has tailored diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with local dietary habits, compiled bilingual health manuals, and launched free chronic disease clinics to standardize medication and follow-up management for local patients.

Adhering to the philosophy of teaching people to fish rather than giving them fish, Dr. Hou focuses on long-term capacity building for local medical teams. She has delivered systematic professional training for local medical staff, covering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilator operation, and defibrillation skills. Through theoretical lectures, on-site demonstration, hands-on guidance and case discussions, she has effectively improved local emergency and critical care capabilities, leaving a sustainable medical force in Zimbabwe.

Besides clinical work and technical training, Dr. Hou also serves as the team’s publicity and translation leader as well as Party building liaison. She actively spreads China-Africa friendship stories via bilingual reports and cultural exchanges, acting as a bridge for medical and cultural communication between China and Zimbabwe.

Dedicating her youth and professionalism to overseas medical aid, Dr. Hou interprets the responsibility and benevolence of Chinese medical workers with practical actions. She will continue to take root in the local front line, empower grassroots medical development, and write a new chapter of China-Africa health cooperation with love and medical expertise.

Traditional Medicine Exchange: Zimbabwean Delegates Visit China‑Zimbabwe TCM Centre

On the morning of August 21, 2026, a delegation led by Mr. Onias Ndoro, Director‑General of Traditional Medicine Department under Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care, together with local traditional chiefs, paid a visit to the China‑Zimbabwe Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Centre.

Accompanied by members of the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe, the delegation toured the TCM specimen exhibition hall and supporting facilities. They learned about the centre’s operation, featured TCM therapies and local talent training, and held in‑depth discussions on the development of traditional medicine and practical China‑Zimbabwe medical cooperation.

Through on‑site observation and face‑to‑face talks, Zimbabwean representatives gained deeper insights into TCM philosophies and service models. The visit built a regular communication channel between Zimbabwe’s traditional medicine authorities, local traditional leaders and the Chinese TCM team.

Going forward, both sides will leverage the centre as a platform for mutual learning in traditional medicine. They will tap cooperation potential in clinical services, personnel training and academic exchanges to jointly advance health‑care undertakings of the two countries.

Members of the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe took part in Day 2 of the 2026 Asian Cultural Festival Cinema Day at Westgate Cinemas, Harare on August 1.

Co-hosted by seven Asian embassies, the event featured Asian film screenings including China’s inspirational movie One and Only. The team held a booth showcasing traditional Chinese medicine, tea art and Chinese calligraphy.

Medics shared TCM therapies, demonstrated tea ceremony and brush calligraphy with local visitors and diplomatic representatives. Combining medical aid with cultural exchange, the activity deepened mutual understanding and friendship between China and Zimbabwe.
