This National Carers Week, we are recognising the unpaid carers in our community: family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues who provide care and support every day.

The theme for 2026 is Care for a Carer. It is a reminder that small acts of recognition and practical support can make a real difference.

If you are a carer, or know someone who is, free support is available through Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 or at www.carergateway.gov.au.

Dinesh Palipana is a doctor, researcher, disability advocate and Country Care client, with both professional and personal experience of disability.

Living with a spinal cord injury has given Dinesh a firsthand understanding of how important the right equipment and support can be. That’s why Country Care’s beginnings, shaped by an understanding of disability, really resonate with him.

Even as Country Care has grown, Dinesh says that original thread is still there, and he believes that makes a difference.

There’s care, and then there’s Country Care. 💙

🥄 What if you had a limited number of spoons to get through your day?

For many people living with chronic illness or non-visible disabilities, everyday activities can use up precious energy. This is the idea behind Spoon Theory, and why some people describe themselves as a “Spoonie.”

From getting ready in the morning to working, travelling or completing everyday tasks, each activity can take a spoon. When those spoons are limited, managing energy and knowing when to rest becomes an important part of the day.

🌻 The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower can also provide a discreet way for people with non-visible disabilities to signal that they may need additional support.

Not every disability is visible. Taking the time to understand, listen and support others can make a real difference. 💛

Roll up your sleeve for Michael❤️

Our colleague Michael Standley, Executive General Manager – Business Development at Country Care Group, was recently diagnosed with myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

To show our support for Michael, Country Care Group is getting behind a Lifeblood donation drive – supporting Michael and the many Australians who rely on donated blood.

Want to get involved? Here’s how:
1. Check if you can donate > complete Lifeblood’s quick eligibility quiz here: https://www.lifeblood.com.au/donors/blood-plasma-platelets/eligibility
2.Join Michael’s Lifeblood Team > log in to Lifeblood here: https://my.donateblood.com.au/, go to Teams and search “Michael Standley”, then join “Roll up your sleeve for Michael Standley”
3. Book your donation > find your nearest donor centre here: https://www.lifeblood.com.au/blood/donor-centre/ or call 13 14 95.
4. Spread the word > bring a friend or family member along. And if you feel comfortable, take a photo while you’re donating and share it with us. Seeing our community get involved might encourage someone else to roll up their sleeve too.

If you can’t donate, that’s completely fine. You can still support Michael by sharing the message and encouraging others to get involved.

Thank you for getting behind Michael. ❤️

💙 $2,783 RAISED FOR JEANS FOR GENES! 👖

We’re proud to see teams across Country Care Group come together to take part in this year’s Jeans for Genes campaign.

By getting involved, our teams helped raise awareness of the daily challenges faced by children and families living with genetic conditions. Their participation also helped support vital research and projects working to improve the lives of kids affected by these conditions.

It was fantastic to see teams across the country getting into the spirit with denim, BBQs and plenty of enthusiasm for such an important cause. 👖💙

And the result? An incredible $2,783! 🙌

We’re also proud to share that Country Care Group ranked 35th out of 708 participating workplaces based on the total amount raised.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and participated. Your support is helping make a meaningful difference. 💙

It’s time to talk about dementia. 💜

This Dementia Action Week, 21–27 September, Country Care Group is proud to support Dementia Australia in encouraging Australians to start more open conversations about dementia.

Today, around 446,500 Australians are living with dementia, with more than 1.7 million people involved in their care. Dementia is now Australia’s leading cause of death, yet it’s still something many of us find difficult to talk about.

Dementia isn’t a normal part of ageing, and starting a conversation can make a difference.

By talking, listening and learning, we can help improve understanding, reduce stigma and discrimination, and make it easier for people living with dementia, their families and carers to feel supported and connected.

A national conversation starts with thousands of smaller ones, between families, friends, colleagues, health professionals and within our communities.

This Dementia Action Week, let’s start the conversation, one conversation at a time.

From this month's OT Spotlight, Lucy shares a simple truth: the right solution isn't always a new piece of equipment. Stepping into practice taught her that understanding a client's whole life is just as vital as prescribing care. For Lucy, open conversations are what ensure clients get what they truly need.
