Join WA's Solidarity with Arrernte Custodians and local residents of Mparntwe/Alice Springs: Tune in this weekend to Vimeo to be part of the Close Pine Gap Sacred Land Back Convergence workshops, discussion, connecting and peaceful protest from July 18-20, 2026.

This year is the 60th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the US and Australian governments that led to the construction of the so-called Pine Gap joint defence facility on Arrernte Country
The convergence on the Pine Gap intelligence facility will take place on the 18-20 July to call for the end of the US alliance, the return of the land the facility has occupied for 60 years, and to talk about ongoing struggles for justice and decolonisation in this place.

More information on the what/where/when of the convergence can be found here: https://closepinegap.org.au/info/
Information on the why of the convergence can be found here: https://closepinegap.org.au/whyconverge/

Good afternoon from the world's only jarrah forest.
The summit of Boonering Hill, this view north across the sea of forest was rendered almost into monochrome by the heavily overcast grey sky. The total elevation gain from the plateau is about 210 metres, so Boonering Hill offers an expansive 360 degree view. Mt Dale is visible on the centre-right horizon, fifty kilometres away, well beyond the closer peaks of the Monadnocks Conservation Area.

Most of the area in the left side of this photo is currently subject to an application by Alcoa to mine it for bauxite.

It is deeply saddening that in the 21st century our society still lacks the simple understanding that devastating our unique environment at the behest of greedy multinational companies, particularly when it is for such little in the way of financial return, is profoundly shortsighted. It also robs our future generations of enjoying and preserving a global biodiversity hotspot.
