Ask yourself if you are commenting on a really important issue "yes, but".... and then talking about a different unrelated issue... is that really helpful?

I have been quiet for a while... but this bill that passed in the senate overnight has shaken me to my core. There is so much misinformation around the NDIS put out by the media and I wanted to get on and try to dispel some of this.

We stand in solidarity with the disability community on this sad day where a horrific human rights atrocity has occurred.

Please reach out to those you know with a disability to check in on them. The nation is grieving with you all. 💔💔💔

Did we mention we were passionate about FND? 🧠🤓

There is no community of practice (COP) in Western Australia or Australia for FND. A COP exists for stroke and other Neurological conditions and as FND is the second most common cause for seeing a Neurologist after migraine, it a deserves a COP of its own.

Alexis and Monique have been meeting to plan out how this might work and find other interested health professionals across different disciplines and sectors to get this off the ground. 💪

So watch this space... and if you are a health professional passionate about FND, get in touch! ✨️

Here we have George who has MS and significant right leg weakness, specifically in his hip flexors and dorsiflexors. Here is Monique walking him with his new AFO, Gutter Frame and a home made hip flexion device which worked very well and saved George $700. Sometimes you can engineer something which works just as well! These were his first unassisted steps in many months! Everyone was stoked. 🙌💪 *Real name not used for confidentiality purposes.

During this session, Bev achieved a significant milestone. She was able to stand without relying on her left arm to pull herself up, instead initiating the movement through her legs. 🦵

There was a moment where she felt she couldn’t do it. With skilled, targeted hand and thumb facilitation, our senior physiotherapist Virginia helped Bev refine the movement pattern, regain confidence, and complete the stand independently.

This is the true value of experienced neurological physiotherapy!

Well done, Bev and Virginia. 👏👏

We asked our Founder, Monique Davies and our Senior Physiotherapist, Virginia Jones: “What’s one thing you’ve stopped doing because it’s not great for brain health?”

Their answers will definitely get you thinking about your own lifestyle choices! ☝️

Some days, progress isn’t about doing more.
It’s about using what’s available and getting through the day safely.

When your brain is working overtime just to maintain balance, focus, movement, or regulation, showing up at all counts as effort.

And effort matters, because effort is how the nervous system stays engaged, adapts, and maintains function, even on days when change can’t be seen yet.

Be kind to yourself today. 🤍

Standing practice can be especially challenging for clients with neurological weakness and an intellectual disability. Not just physically, but in terms of engagement, initiation, and sustaining effort.

In this session, Monique introduced BlazePods as part of a standing intervention to support participation and motivation. By turning the task into something interactive and goal-focused, the intervention provided clear visual cues, immediate feedback, and a reason to stay engaged. 🧠

Instead of asking the client to simply try to “stand”, the activity invited movement, attention, and response.

The outcome was longer standing time, higher engagement, and more purposeful movement during the task.

This is a good example of how thoughtful intervention design and gamification can reduce barriers to participation and support functional goals for clients with complex neurological and cognitive needs.

Sometimes, changing how we ask is what makes the difference. 🙌
