Protein is the building block of Qi (our basic life force) and Blood. Protein is an anchor - eating sufficient protein will help you feel grounded, satisfied and truly replenished. Not eating enough protein is common, and our busy lives often get in the way of planning and preparing protein-rich meals. Protein is particularly important for women during their perimenopausal and menopausal years to maintain muscle mass, increase metabolic rate, support hormonal balance, energy and sleep and strengthen bones. Women in their late 30’s and onwards should aim for 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight. From a TCM point of view, eating sufficient protein every day supports our Spleen, the organ chiefly responsible for the production of Qi and Blood

What does the time you wake up say about you? Quite a lot, actually. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), our various organs reach their peak function at different times. And, each organ is responsible for processing different types of emotions.

1am-3am: Liver
The Liver organ system is at its peak and the associated emotion is frustration and anger. If you are holding in your feelings of frustration and anger, the Liver is affected. This then affects the healthy flow of Qi throughout your body.

3am-5am: Lung
The Lung organ system is at its peak and the associated emotion is grief. If you have experienced some kind of loss, you may find yourself waking up at this time to process grief.

5am-7am: Large Intestine
The Large Intestine organ system is at its peak and the associated emotion is “letting go”. This is why many people move their bowels early in the morning.

Many women and couples choose acupuncture and Chinese herbs as an adjunct therapy while undergoing fertility treatments. Research shows that acupuncture is effective for increasing clinical pregnancy rates (also known as live births), ongoing pregnancy rate (pregnancy beyond 12 weeks) and live birth rates. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has existed for thousands of years, with a long history of supporting gynaecological health and fertility.
