As the sun came up this morning, we paused to remember our community under the memorial tree in Hyde Park.

International Overdose Awareness Day can bring up heavy feelings for many of us. Please be gentle with yourself today and take care of one another. We remember, together. 💜

If you’d like to take a moment of reflection at the memorial tree today, take the walking path opposite the intersection of Glendower Street and Lake Street. Follow the path into the park as it curves to the right and look for the purple ribbon tied around the tree and the sign that will be posted there until 4.30pm.

If you're dropping in to pick up some equipment and take-home-naloxone today, we'll be showing our community some love with a sausage sizzle at our Perth site around lunch time. 🌭👍🏼

Every single one of them matter. Every loss leaves a quiet space in our community and a missing piece in our lives.

If you saw someone overdosing, wouldn’t you want to help?

This International Overdose Awareness Day, we are reminding everyone that you don’t have to be a hero to save a life. You just need the right tools. It’s time to Put the Power in Your Pocket and become a community first responder.

Australia has a proud history of leading the way in harm reduction, but access to naloxone wasn’t always this simple. For years, it was restricted, requiring prescriptions and out-of-pocket costs that kept it out of the hands of the people who needed it most. Thanks to decades of relentless advocacy from peers, community organisations, and health advocates, the landscape has completely changed. Today, naloxone is free, confidential, and available without a prescription at health and AOD services, and participating pharmacies and needle and syringe exchange programs across Australia.

The power is now in our hands.

Carry naloxone and be a first responder! Drop by Peer Based Harm Reduction WA for a brief education session and learn how to recognise and respond to an opioid overdose with naloxone. If you can’t come to us, just call the Statewide Postal Naloxone service on 0478 220 428, get your brief education session over the phone, and we’ll post take-home-naloxone to you anywhere in Western Australia. It’s free, it’s confidential, and you might just save a life.

We care about your well-being. If you need equipment while PBHR WA is closed and you are in Perth, here are the nearest alternative needle and syringe program services until we reopen as usual on Thursday at 10am:
