šŸ’œ FEEL-GOOD FRIDAY: THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER šŸ’œ

Yesterday, I helped a woman arrange a rental so she could go and watch her grandson play.

She was so excited—and it was an absolute pleasure helping her make it happen.

Sometimes mobility equipment isn’t needed every day. Sometimes it’s needed for a wedding, a family celebration, a grandchild’s game or another moment that is simply too important to miss.

Renting the right equipment can make those special days more comfortable and accessible. It can mean staying longer, enjoying the experience and focusing on the people you came to celebrate—not worrying about how far you’ll need to walk or whether you’ll manage.

Because these aren’t just outings.

They’re memories waiting to be made.

The big moments belong to you, too.

🌟 FEATURED PRODUCT WEDNESDAY 🌟

Not every walker needs to do the same job—and Human Care has introduced two very different options.

The new Nexus 3 Wide offers a roomier fit for people who need additional space and support. It provides greater comfort without sacrificing the dependable design people expect from the Nexus line.

The Nexus 3 wide comes in Low Wide, and Standard Wide, 20 inch seat, weight capacity of 551lbs, and product weight of 18-20lbs.

At the other end of the spectrum is the neXus oNe—a simple, practical walker that is ideal for indoor use. It is a great choice for moving around the house, navigating tighter spaces and handling everyday tasks.

The Nexus 1 neXus oNe, is one of our rollators with the slimmest design, making it perfect in narrow spaces, 6" wheels, comfortable seat. Product weight is 17lbs, weight capacity is 353lbs.

One offers more room. One keeps things simple.

The right walker isn’t determined by what is popular—it is determined by what fits your body, your environment and your daily life.

Have questions? Come see us. We’ll help you find the walker that works for you.

šŸ›ž WALKER SAFETY: DOES WHEEL SIZE MATTER?

It certainly does!

Walker wheels aren’t simply a design choice. Their size can affect how easily and safely your walker moves through different environments.

šŸ”¹ Smaller wheels are generally best suited to smooth indoor flooring and tighter spaces.

šŸ”¹ Medium-sized wheels can offer a good balance for both indoor and outdoor use.

šŸ”¹ Larger wheels usually handle outdoor surfaces, sidewalk cracks and uneven ground more easily while providing better stability.

But wheel size is only part of the picture. Your balance, strength, walking pattern and where you use your walker most often all matter.

Before choosing a walker, think beyond colour and appearance. Think about where those wheels need to take you.

Not sure which size is right? Ask us—we’re here to help you choose safely.

šŸ”§ WEDNESDAY MAINTENANCE CHECK: LOOK AT YOUR WHEELS

Walker wheels collect more than kilometres.

Hair, thread, pet fur, dirt and other debris can wind around the wheels and axles. Over time, that buildup may make the wheels harder to turn, affect how the walker tracks or cause premature wear.

Take a moment to check:

āœ… Are the wheels turning freely?

āœ… Is anything wrapped around the axles?

āœ… Are the tires worn, cracked or damaged?

āœ… Does the walker pull to one side?

āœ… Are all fasteners secure?

Wipe the wheels regularly and gently remove anything caught around them. If a wheel feels loose, stiff or damaged, have the walker inspected rather than waiting for it to become a safety concern.

A few minutes of maintenance can help keep your walker rolling smoothly—and keep you moving safely.

🐾 PETS AND MOBILITY EQUIPMENT: CUTE PASSENGERS NEED SAFE HABITS!

A pet riding along on a scooter or power wheelchair may be adorable—but safety needs to come first.

Before bringing your pet aboard:

🐶 Make sure they are calm, trained and comfortable around the equipment.

🐶 Keep them properly secured so they cannot jump off, fall, block your view or interfere with the controls.

🐶 Never allow a leash to hang near the wheels, castors or moving parts.

Puppies and curious pets can also cause unexpected damage. Chewing wires, tires or battery components can create a serious safety hazard. Urinating on wheels, motors, wiring or battery compartments may lead to corrosion, electrical damage and expensive repairs.

Before using your equipment, take a quick look around and underneath it—especially when there are young pets in the home.

Bring your furry copilot along—but keep paws, teeth and tails safe! 🐾

šŸ”§ CALLING IN A REPAIR? HERE’S WHAT WE NEED—and why!

When you call to arrange a repair, we’ll ask for a few important details:

āœ… The item – Is it a scooter, power wheelchair, lift chair, walker or something else?

āœ… The serial number – This helps us identify the exact model, age and correct replacement parts. Similar-looking equipment can use very different components!

āœ… Your address – We need to confirm your location, plan service calls and determine whether the equipment should come into the shop.

āœ… A description of the issue – Tell us what happened, what the equipment is doing now and whether you noticed any sounds, smells, warning lights or error codes.

We know it can feel like a lot of questions when you simply need something fixed. But the more information we have, the better prepared our technicians can be—and the sooner we can work toward the right solution.

Good information helps make a good repair possible.

It’s not catering—it’s caring.

Good customer service isn’t simply selling or renting someone a piece of equipment.

It’s listening when something isn’t working.

It’s understanding that every person has different needs.

It’s saying, ā€œCome back in, and let’s find something better.ā€

There’s a big difference between giving someone what’s available and helping them find what genuinely works.

That isn’t catering. That’s caring—and that’s what customer service should be.

😊 FEEL-GOOD FRIDAY 😊

Today, I received a call from a very nice gentleman who had rented a Travel Buggy from us.

I asked how he was doing with it.

His answer?

ā€œI HATE IT.ā€

ā€œOkay,ā€ I said. ā€œCome on in, and we’ll see what other rental we can find for you.ā€

He wasn’t expecting that response—but he was certainly happy to hear it! He’ll be coming in next week so we can find him something that works better for his needs.

Because mobility equipment is personal. What works beautifully for one person may not work for another—and that’s okay.

Our job isn’t finished when the equipment leaves the store. We want you to feel comfortable, confident and supported.

It’s not catering—it’s caring. And that’s customer service.

āš ļø WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR POWER WHEELCHAIR BREAKS DOWN AWAY FROM HOME?

A flat tire or mechanical problem can happen unexpectedly. Knowing who to call can keep you safe—and help you avoid a very expensive emergency call-out.

First, move to a safe location if you can and turn on any lights or hazard signals your chair has.

If you are injured, in immediate danger or stranded in an active roadway, call 911.

If you are safely out of traffic and it is a mechanical breakdown, consider these options:

āœ… Call a family member, caregiver or support person
āœ… Contact an accessible wheelchair van, taxi or cab service
āœ… Call your mobility-equipment provider and explain what happened

An accessible taxi may cost a little more than a standard cab, but it is often far more manageable than calling a tow truck or arranging an emergency service call.

Please avoid:

āŒ Attempting a roadside repair you are not trained to perform
āŒ Letting someone lift or tow the chair incorrectly
āŒ Continuing to drive if doing so could cause more damage
āŒ Assuming a technician can immediately leave another appointment

Please do call us—we need to know what happened so we can help plan the repair. However, same-day roadside service may not always be possible. Our technicians may already be working with another client, and some tires, motors and specialized parts must be ordered. We can inform you of what we can do for you at that time.

Emergency call-outs can cost $200–$300 or more, depending on the location and work required. We will always do our best to help, but having a safe transportation back up plan can save you time, stress and unexpected expense.

A little preparation goes a long way: keep emergency contacts and the number of a local accessible taxi service saved in your phone.
