When you open your mouth and stick out your tongue, healthcare providers can look at how much of the back of your throat is visible. This is called the Mallampati Classification.

If the tongue takes up a lot of space in the mouth and blocks the view of the throat, it may be associated with a higher risk of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea in some people.
