At DPSI, we currently offer two IV therapies to help manage your chronic pain; lidocaine infusions and ketamine infusions.

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that, when administered intravenously, has been proven effective at treating various pain conditions, including but not limited to fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and chronic diabetic neuropathy. Lidocaine infusions affect the whole body, allowing your body's pain response systems to relax and become less sensitive. Most people experience long-term relief after two or three sessions, lasting 6-8 weeks.

Ketamine, though similar to lidocaine, works by blocking receptors that play a major role in chronic pain, opioid tolerance, and mood regulation. Ketamine is rapidly gaining popularity for the treatment of a number of mental health conditions such as ptsd, opioid addiction, and treatment-resistant depression, in addition to chronic pain.

✨️ Meet the Team: Fatima (Ambreen)

She brings with her over a decade of global experience in patient safety, pharmacovigilance, and clinical assessment. "Its hard to imagine that only two years ago today, we opened the doors to DSPI for the first time. We oftentimes forget to stop and reflect on our journey, our growth, and our accomplishments; but it is so important that we do.

Two years ago, 4 physicians and a handful of staff came together with a shared vision. We wanted to create a unique and beautiful space that didn't feel clinical, yet had the means and ability to provide the highest quality interventional pain procedures. We were excited and hopeful, yet anxious; some of us having taken a leap of faith and leaving longtime careers and institutions behind. The mission, was this clinic would fill a need that was so greatly lacking within the Durham Region. The paint was barely dry, but we knew we had the skill, knowledge, equipment and most importantly, the people, to make this a success.

Fast forward two years, and both our staff and physicians have tripled in numbers, with 11 physicians and soon-to-be 7 fully operational fluoroscopy suites. We never imagined this is where we would be in such a short time frame. But it is our team- our clinical assistants, nurses, technologists and MRTs, reception and physicians- that truly set DSPI apart and make us who we are. I could not be more honored and proud of this group of individuals; to come into the office and have the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated, caring and skilled group is truly a blessing.

Patient centered care will continue to be our top priority, no matter how much we grow. We are all committed to providing accessible, superior treatment and care to our clients, now and forever."

What's the difference; have you ever wondered what the difference is between Xray, MRI and CT? Here is why the right imaging matters 👇

🦴 XRAY: Xrays are quick and readily available. They use low dose radiation to capture images of bones, fractures and the lungs. Structures with high levels of calcium (bones and teeth) block the radiation making them appear brighter. They do not capture soft tissues well, which appear gray or dark on the image.

🦴 MRI: MRIs are more time consuming, but instead use very strong magnets and radio waves rather than ionizing radiation. Particles in the body react to the energy and create highly detailed images good for diagnosing sports injuries and musculoskeletal disorders. MRIs are best used for the spinal cord, and soft tissues like tendons, ligaments and muscles.

🦴 CT: A CT scan uses a higher dose of radiation to create cross-sections and a 360° view of the body. They are relatively fast, making them ideal for trauma and diagnosing internal injuries, such as internal bleeding or tumors.
