Elder abuse is often overlooked and under-reported, despite taking many forms—physical, psychological, financial, and neglect. It commonly occurs in environments where individuals lack support, visibility, or access to services. Meaningful action requires more than awareness; it calls for stronger systems to prevent and respond to abuse while protecting the dignity, independence, and rights of older adults.

As a proud member of Canadian Association for Long Term Care - CALTC, we are honored to recognize National Long Term Care Day 2026. This year’s theme, Caring Across Canada: Canadians united to support long-term care, reflects a pivotal moment for our sector.

Beyond celebration, today is about solidarity. We are recognizing the hundreds of thousands of Canadians—residents, dedicated professionals, and families—who are the backbone of our healthcare system. Their resilience is the reason we continue to advocate for robust policies and sustainable funding that will safeguard the future of care in every province.

A supported sector is a stronger Canada. We invite our partners and peers to join the conversation on how we can continue to build a legacy of quality care.
