-- Intervenor services

What does this mean for patients?
-- A fast and reliable booking process

These changes will happen in steps. More details will be shared as they are confirmed.

**For our Deaf‑Blind community, PLS will connect with the Deaf‑Blind Planning Committee to arrange an in-person meeting to discuss the content of this announcement.

One in four people in Canada have a language other than English. Language should never be a barrier to care. Health teams can request interpreting services through Provincial Language Services.

Options include:
☎️ Over-the-phone interpreting in more than 200 languages.
🖥️ Video remote interpreting for patients who communicate in a language other than English or for Deaf or Hard of Hearing patients.
👩‍💻 Virtual visits where an interpreter can join via Teams or Zoom.
🏥 On-site interpreting where an ASL or spoken language interpreter joins a health appointment in person.
With these options, every patient can communicate in a way that works best for them.

Provincial Health Services Authority - PHSA
Today, we proudly honour the essential role of interpreters in the health care system. Interpreters are skilled professionals who make sure language never stands in the way of safe, compassionate, and equitable care.

Whether interpreting in-person, over the phone, or through video, these individuals bring clarity to complex medical conversations, empower patients to make informed decisions, and ensure that providers can deliver care that is truly patient-centered.

To all the interpreters supporting patients and providers across our health care system: thank you for your professionalism, empathy, and commitment to breaking down barriers. Your work has a profound impact on patient outcomes and experiences, and we are deeply grateful for all you do.
