ic life. I specialize in the treatment of trauma, eating disorders and body image concerns, bereavement, depression, anxiety, health concerns, life transitions, and stress management. I have done numerous national and international presentations on health and wellness, especially in the area of eating disorder and obesity prevention, and creating healthy environments for children. in theatre, a B.Ed., an M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Lethbridge, and am currently completing a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary. My focus is primarily child psychology and eating disorder prevention and treatment. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I enjoyed being an elementary school teacher, and initially sought further training to become a school counsellor. I also have completed training in Hakomi, EMDR (Level II), Usui Reiki (Level II), and am completing Iyengar Yoga teacher training, which greatly informs my approach to counselling. Why do I do what I do? I truly value personal health and well-being, healthy relationships, and seek to help people create healthy environments. However, I also recognize (and have experienced) that life takes twists and turns that take us off our authentic path and cause deep hurts, which I truly believe can be healed and help us learn and grow along our life's journey. Our past does not define us, but can be used to open our hearts and minds to create a healthier present and future. My practice is inclusive of differences. GLBTQ and Poly friendly. I look forward to working with you!

As a social justice oriented psychologist, I go to bat for people who don't even know I'm going to bat for them.

Today's meeting is with a representative of the Vatican to talk about the retraumatization, demoralization, and dehumanization of victims of clergy perpetrated child sexual abuse. Because this hypocrisy needs to be called out.

I don't know who is seeing this right now...but if you live in BC or Alberta or Nova Scotia & are a woman dealing with complex trauma or your child is struggling with challenging emotions & situations, that is the work I've been called to do. First responder trauma too.

I help people navigate through the tough stuff in life.

I also love wildflowers. And burning down systems.

Dr. Andrew Wilkin, a Board member of the Canadian Covid Society, has written a new opinion piece for the Hamilton Spectator on rising sickness absence and disability amid the ongoing impacts of Covid-19 and Long Covid.

He argues that instead of pressuring sick workers and students to return to unsafe workplaces and classrooms, governments must address the causes of increasing illness through clean indoor air, paid sick leave, stronger protections, and greater accessibility.

"Despite the emergency phase being declared over, the Covid-19 pandemic continues. Long Covid is still making people sick, long after infection, damaging immune systems and triggering various illnesses.”

“Forcing people to work and kids into classrooms without cleaning the air and providing paid sick days, might make things worse. Teaching is one of the most vulnerable jobs for Covid and Long Covid. If people are sick more often, it’s best not to force them into sick buildings more often. Considering that many workers in these buildings are precarious, racialized, and women, this is also a story of governments failing their historic duties to equitably protect people.”

My office is COVID conscious for simple reasons: I prevent the risk of airborne respiratory viruses. I want all of us to be healthy.

I also know the devastating impact of Long COVID.

I believe that as a healthcare provider I have a responsibility to prevent illness.

I hand out respirator/breatheteq masks to my clients, big and small, to help them reduce their risk of getting COVID and Long COVID.

Here is some information my colleague Dr. David Keegan put together about the importance of masking:

As described by the Public Health Agency of Canada1,
Long COVID (also known as post-COVID-19 condition) affects children as well as adults.
- It’s long-lasting symptoms after a known or unknown COVID infection.
- The most common Long COVID symptoms in children are:
Fatigue
Headache
Abdominal pain
Sleep problems
Shortness of breath
Cognitive problems (difficulty thinking or concentrating)
Muscle aches and joint pains

I care for children with Long COVID. It can interfere with their social, physical and educational development. You do not want your child to develop Long COVID.

While there are some promising therapies, there is no clear cure for Long COVID.

The best way to prevent Long COVID is to prevent COVID infections.

Since COVID is airborne, the best way to prevent COVID infections is to wear respirator-type masks (like N95s) all the time indoors. This is why I’m giving you this mask for your child to wear. I personally purchased these to hand out to my patients. This is how important it is to me, as your child’s doctor, for your child to mask: to protect their health.

I know there will be times at school and other places where your child will want to remove their mask. Wearing a mask as much as possible in public indoor spaces will greatly reduce your child’s risk of getting COVID, which will reduce their risk of developing Long COVID. If they wear it 90% of the time, that’s still a huge win and way better than wearing it only 20% of the time, or not at all.

> Key tip: shape the curve of the nose piece first, then put the mask on.

Ever feel like you are living a different timeline, an alternate reality than those around you?

It might be the effects of complex trauma. A stuck nervous system. A brain & heart that won't settle. A soul seeking meaning.

Let's be still and get to the heart of the matter. Please reach out. You are not alone. You need a witness. Link in bio.

Photographing flowers is one of my soul passions. Getting right in there, seeing the whole, the habitat it lives in. Observing the miniscule, getting to the heart. Appreciating the sacred. Witnessing.

This is who I am as a counselling psychologist. Seeing both the whole and the heart of the matter. Seeking to restore wholeness. A witness.

This is Bitterroot. I found her at Record Ridge near Rossland BC. Her habitat is about to be destroyed by mining. This is not ok.
