Your eye suddenly doesn’t close completely after an Botulinum Products injection?
Or one eyelid looks lower than the other?
Why can this happen?
After treatment with Neuro-modulators / botulinum toxin products, temporary asymmetry or eyelid ptosis can occasionally occur. More rarely, some patients may notice incomplete eyelid closure.
Why?
It may be related to the diffusion of the medication, individual anatomy, dose, injection location, or technique.
So, how can we reduce the risk?
Choose a licensed and appropriately trained medical professional.
Have a proper medical consultation before treatment.
Tell your provider about your medications and medical conditions.
And follow your post-procedure instructions carefully.
If something doesn’t look or feel right after your treatment, don’t panic, but don’t ignore it either.
Contact your treating healthcare professional for assessment. Many localized effects are temporary.
Rare, but important to know:
If you develop progressive or generalized muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing in addition to eye lid drop, please do not wait. Call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department immediately to rule out Botulism.
These situations are extremely rare, but they require urgent medical assessment.
