As a child, joy often came naturally. We followed curiosity without questioning whether it was productive, useful, or worth our time.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to disconnect from the things that once made us feel alive.

Healing is not always about becoming someone new. Sometimes it is about remembering the parts of yourself that felt free, creative, playful, calm, or fully present before life became so heavy.

The things that brought you joy as a child may still hold clues about what your nervous system needs now.

Maybe it was music.
Maybe it was being outside.
Maybe it was drawing, building, dancing, reading, exploring, or simply feeling safe enough to play.

What used to make you lose track of time? ⏳

A lot of the routines we see online can make care feel like another thing to achieve perfectly. But sustainable care usually looks quieter than that. It often begins with small things you can actually return to consistently.

One grounding habit.

One supportive conversation.

One intentional pause in the middle of your day.

Small rhythms create stability over time.

You do not need to overhaul your entire life to start feeling more supported. Sometimes the most helpful question is simply:

“What feels manageable for me today?”

Which one feels most realistic for you right now? 💜

If you’ve been in survival mode, joy can feel unfamiliar because your nervous system got used to surviving.

So when a good moment appears, your first instinct might be to question it, brace for it to disappear, or feel guilty for enjoying it at all.

That response makes sense.

You do not have to “earn” rest, peace, laughter, or softness after hard seasons. Small moments of enjoyment are allowed to exist, even while you are still healing. 🫶

It might feel strange at first, like you’re waiting for something to go wrong.

Sometimes recovery begins with noticing the tiny moments your body finally exhales again. ✨

What’s one small thing that felt good lately?

Grief can make joy feel confusing. You laugh at something, enjoy a moment, or feel a little lighter… and then the guilt creeps in right after.

But healing doesn’t ask you to choose one emotion at a time.

You don’t have to wait until everything feels better to experience moments of joy. Both can exist at the same time. ✨

Grief doesn’t disappear when joy shows up. It just shares the space.

You can miss someone deeply and still smile.

You can carry sadness and still experience connection, peace, or laughter.
Those moments of joy are not a sign that your grief is gone. They’re a sign that your heart is still human.

If today feels heavy, let this be your reminder that both can exist together. 💛

Remember this for when the days feel confusing.

Some healing journeys involve untangling identity, belief, grief, and self-trust, and no one should have to navigate that alone. 🌿

Meet Zach Hair, founder of In Touch & In Tune Counselling, offering relational, trauma-informed therapy in West Kelowna and online across BC. He supports individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, identity shifts, and life transitions, with a special focus on religious trauma and spiritual abuse.

His approach is compassionate, grounded, and person-centered, integrating somatic awareness, reflective dialogue, and spiritually informed psychotherapy to help clients reconnect with themselves in a safe and supportive space.

Alongside his clinical work, he is pursuing PhD research through the University of Calgary focused on religious trauma, faith deconstruction, and identity reconstruction, work that deeply informs the care he provides.

He believes healing happens in relationship: when people feel truly seen, heard, and supported as whole persons. 💛

Do you ever find that it's easier to be kind to someone else than it is to be kind to yourself?

You might know exactly what you’d say to a friend who’s struggling. You’d be patient. You’d be understanding. You wouldn’t rush them or expect them to have it all figured out...

But when it’s you, the tone can shift.

More pressure. More criticism. Less space to just be where you are. ❤️

This is your reminder that you’re allowed to offer that same kindness inward.

Does springtime come with pressure to “feel better” just because it’s warmer out? For many, the answer is yes.

Like you "should" have more energy.
You "should" be in a lighter mood.
You "should" be out enjoying things more.

But those “shoulds” aren’t actually helpful. ❌

You can be sitting in the sun and still feel heavy. You can have a good day and still notice grief, anxiety, or low energy underneath it.

There’s nothing wrong with that. You don’t have to force yourself to match the moment.

If you want to put words to what’s actually there, here is a journal prompt. ✍️

Just put the pen to paper and flow-write. No pressure to make it sound right.

“One feeling that keeps coming up for me lately is…”

If you’re new to flow-writing, start by writing out that sentence and then just keep the pen moving across the pages. Don’t judge or try to control the words. Let them flow out of you.
