🧠+💪 Brain + Body: The Art of Dual-Tasking in Parkinson's Rehab
Let’s level up your ParticipACTION minutes this week! For our Parkinson’s clientele, one of the most effective ways to challenge the brain and body simultaneously is through Dual-Task Training.
In daily life, we rarely just walk. We walk while carrying groceries, talking to a friend, or reading a street sign. Because Parkinson's affects automatic movement pathways, doing two things at once can cause a "freezing" gait or balance loss.
In the clinic, we proactively train this! Try adding a cognitive challenge to your movement at home today:
🟢 While marching in place, count backward from 100 by 7s.
🟢 While tossing a soft ball hand-to-hand, name an animal for every letter of the alphabet.
🟢 While out for a supported walk, name every street or local plant you pass out loud.
By combining thinking and moving, you are directly challenging your basal ganglia and building a highly resilient brain. Log those dual-task minutes for Cranbrook today!
