❌ 𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: “I’m not anemic, so my iron is fine.”

✓ 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧: You can have 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 you become anemic.

Think of it like a fuel tank:

𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡 = your stored iron ⛽
𝗛𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗚𝗟𝗢𝗕𝗜𝗡 (𝗛𝗯) = oxygen-carrying protein in your blood 🩸

As iron becomes depleted:

𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 ↓
→ 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻 ↓
→ Hb may still look normal
→ with further depletion, 𝗛𝗯 ↓
→ 𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻-𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗮

So, “not anemic” doesn’t always mean “not iron deficient.”
