Should we even dare talk about doulas and their impact in preventing (or reducing) the risk of perinatal trauma? Trained doulas are still not accepted in many places and their jobs remain one of frequent ‘bullying’ by the system. Could we just work together for the benefit of women and families???

Did anyone catch the excellent article in The Australian article yesterday "Is ‘obstetric violence’ pushing Australian women towards freebirth?
Birth trauma and limited access to popular midwifery-led maternity programs is driving a growing number of Australian women to freebirth – delivering babies without any medical support." by KATE SMITHERS
eg "The unacceptable prevalence of birth trauma remains a significant problem. The NSW birth trauma inquiry has recommended its state government expand its midwifery services, as well as incentivise the profession. RANZCOG has partnered with Birth Trauma Australia to deliver a pilot program designed to address the causes of birth trauma and deliver trauma-­informed education for health professionals. Advocates say trusting women is at the heart of allowing all mothers to birth safely and with the respect they deserve."
