If your legs feel heavy, swollen, or exhausted by the end of the day, that's your body telling you something worth paying attention to.
It's one of those symptoms that's easy to dismiss. You chalk it up to being on your feet, a long week, not drinking enough water. But the real reason it happens is often something much more specific, and much more treatable.
Here's what's actually going on:
Your veins are designed to push blood upward, back toward your heart. They do this against gravity, all day, every day. When the tiny valves inside those veins start to weaken, blood doesn't flow the way it should. It falls backward, pools in the lower leg, and creates the pressure and congestion that makes your legs feel like they're carrying extra weight.
The pressure accumulates throughout the day, which is why symptoms so often get worse in the afternoon and evening. And because it tends to develop gradually, many women simply adapt to the feeling, assuming it's normal, or just part of getting older.
It isn't. And once treated, the difference can be remarkable. Many patients say their legs haven't felt that light and comfortable in years.
We're sharing this in collaboration with our partners at Sudbury Vein Clinic, who specialize in diagnosing and treating venous insufficiency right here in Sudbury, Ontario. If this sounds familiar, a consultation is a great first step toward understanding what your legs are actually telling you.
