Sunbeam celebrated our 5th Annual Kid’s Day on Saturday August 29th. This fun filled event has quickly become an annual tradition, eagerly anticipated by children and families alike.

This year the day featured a barnyard petting zoo and pocket pets, face painting, henna tattoos, a fun whack-a-mole game and the always-popular fire trucks and ice cream truck. We are grateful to the Kitchener Fire Department for again coming out to give kids tours of their trucks and hand out fire helmets. Adding to the festivities, local musician Juneyt provided the soundtrack to a wonderful day.

The day ended with a raffle where every child received a prize. It was great to see so many happy faces again this year.

Thanks to our staff, volunteers and donors for contributing to another great Kid’s Day. We had over 70 children attend this year, with their families – our biggest turnout yet!

A special thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the day and help us celebrate such a great community.

We can’t wait to see everyone again next year!

Meet Christopher: Christopher is an easygoing, cooperative person with a great sense of humor. He is very social and enjoys spending time with his peers, visiting with friends, and getting involved in his community. He especially likes activities where he can be helpful, whether it's vacuuming (his favorite household chore!), washing dishes, or helping with grocery shopping.

Christopher's positive attitude, willingness to help, and friendly personality make him a valued member of his home and community.

Staff Spotlight: Meet Ed!

I have been working at Sunbeam for approximately eight years. In my role, I plan, organize, and deliver recreation and wellness activities for many of the homes at Sunbeam. This includes communicating with team members, sharing information, and facilitating activities such as baking, outings, crafts, and other opportunities.

Ed seems to be everywhere, always, and we love having him on board at Sunbeam.

July was another fun-filled month for the Recreation and Wellness team, and they were taking advantage of this amazing summer weather.

Bowling, baking, outdoor games, crafts, and off-campus outings were a big hit with staff, participants, and volunteers. August has been great and we can't wait to see what the rest of the of month brings.

In June, thirty-five moms and two lucky Sunbeam staff enjoyed a fantastic sunny day at the YMCA camp Ki-Wa-Y Outdoor Centre in St. Clements.

The Mothers’ Annual Retreat Day is an opportunity for moms of children diagnosed with autism and/or intellectual disabilities to connect, have fun and maybe try something new. Highlights from the day included archery, a low ropes course and of course, time at the Lake.
