A little Friday reminder before the long weekend. 🤍

Maybe you don’t need to make the most of every minute.
Maybe you don’t need to catch up on everything you’ve been putting off.
Maybe you don’t need to be productive enough to “deserve” rest.
And maybe rest for you doesn’t look like lying on the couch all weekend either.

It might be getting outside.
Moving your body.
Having coffee with someone you love.
Reading.
Laughing.
Taking your kids somewhere fun.
Having a quiet morning.
Or honestly...doing absolutely nothing for a little while.

One of the things I talk about often in my work is learning to notice what your nervous system actually needs rather than automatically reaching for the thing we’re “supposed” to do. Because there isn’t one regulation strategy that works for everyone, every time.

Sometimes we need to settle.
Sometimes we need to move.
Sometimes we need connection.
Sometimes we need space.
And sometimes we just need permission to stop trying so hard.

So as you head into the long weekend, maybe ask yourself:

What would actually feel supportive for me right now?

Not what you should do.
Not what everyone else is doing.
Just...what do I need?

And maybe that’s enough. 🌿

Wishing you a gentle long weekend.

Summer is slowly coming to an end. The days are getting shorter, mornings are cooler, and routines are settling back in. Kids are heading back to school, work schedules are shifting, and suddenly there are calendars, lunches, activities, appointments and all the things again.

And honestly...I have mixed feelings about it.

Part of me loves the slower, spontaneous rhythm of summer. The later nights, being outside, having nowhere to be.

And another part of me is so ready for routine. Give me cozy weather, a warm drink, a blanket, candles and pumpkin everything and I am VERY happy. 🎃☕🍁

But September can also bring a lot of transition.

You might find yourself thinking...

Did we do enough?
Where did the time go?
I’m not ready for things to change.
I actually feel relieved things are getting back to normal.

There isn’t one “right” way to feel. Sometimes, underneath all the mental chatter, our bodies are simply responding to change.

So rather than forcing yourself into a September “reset” or trying to become more productive, what if you allowed yourself to transition gently?

🍂 Create a little more structure while leaving room for rest.
☕ Slow down your mornings.
🚶‍♀️ Get outside and notice the changing season.
🧘‍♀️ Choose movement that feels supportive.
🤍 Ask yourself, “What do I actually need right now?”

And maybe most importantly, let go of the pressure to have “made the most” of summer.

You don’t have to squeeze in one last adventure. You don’t have to come into September as a better version of yourself.

You can simply notice where you are, honour what you need, and move into this season at your own pace. Because just like the seasons change, we change too.

Sometimes healing looks less like pushing forward and more like learning to listen.

What is this season asking of you? 🍁🤍

One of my favourite shifts in nervous-system-informed care is moving away from:

“What coping skill should I use?”

and toward:

“What does my system need right now?”

Because the same strategy won’t necessarily feel supportive in every state.

Sometimes you need quiet.
Sometimes you need movement.
Sometimes you need another person.
Sometimes you need a boundary.

Learning to notice the difference is a skill in itself.

Start simple.

Settle. Activate. Connect. Create space.

Which one do you think you need most often?

If your idea of regulation has become synonymous with “feeling calm,” this one is worth saving.

Regulation isn’t about eliminating difficult emotions.

Life will still be life.
You’ll still have hard conversations.
You’ll still get frustrated.
You’ll still feel grief, anger, disappointment and fear.

The difference is having more capacity to remain connected to yourself while those experiences happen.

Sometimes the most regulated thing you can do isn’t to make yourself feel better.

It’s to say: “This is hard. And I’m staying with myself through it.”

That is a very different kind of self-care. 🤍

You’re doing all the “right” things…so why do you still feel awful?

You’ve tried the breathing.
The walks.
The meditation.
The journaling.

And yet you still don’t feel like yourself.
Maybe the problem isn’t that you’re doing regulation “wrong.”

Maybe your nervous system needs something different right now.
Sometimes we need calming.
Sometimes movement.
Sometimes grounding.
Sometimes connection.

The goal isn’t to force yourself to feel calm. It’s to get curious about what your body might need.

What I’ve come to realize (both personally and in the work I do) is that sometimes our bodies need something much simpler.

A cool splash of water on your hands.
Feeling your feet firmly on the ground.
Wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket.

These little moments aren’t about making your stress disappear. They’re gentle ways of helping your nervous system come back to the present when it feels like it’s racing ahead.

When we’re overwhelmed, our minds often tell us to keep pushing or figure everything out right now. But our bodies sometimes need something different.

A moment to pause.
A moment to notice.
A moment to feel supported.

Healing isn’t always found in the big, life-changing moments. Sometimes it begins with the smallest acts of care we offer ourselves.

What’s one small thing that helps your body feel just a little more grounded?

Maybe you’ve been feeling more overwhelmed than usual. Maybe your body feels tense, tired, or like it’s carrying more than it used to. Maybe you’ve noticed anxiety, burnout, or a sense of disconnection that you can’t quite put into words.

And the truth is, there often isn’t just one reason.

Our thoughts, emotions, nervous system, experiences, and bodies are all connected. What we move through in life can shape how we feel, how we respond, and how we experience ourselves.

This is why we believe healing deserves a whole-person approach. At Nurturing Roots, we bring together different forms of support to meet you where you are.

Through psychotherapy and EMDR, we explore the experiences, emotions, and patterns that may be influencing how you feel today.

Through osteopathy, somatic work, and Reiki, we support the body and the ways stress and tension can show up physically.

Through nervous system coaching, we offer practical tools to help you feel more grounded, connected, and supported in everyday life.

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before reaching out. Sometimes the first step is simply noticing that something feels different. And from there, we can explore it together.

For so long, I ignored the signs.

The tension.
The exhaustion.
The overwhelm.
The moments when I knew I needed rest but kept pushing anyway.

Maybe you’ve noticed some of those things in yourself too.

Not because there’s something wrong with you, but because your nervous system has been doing its best to get your attention.

The beautiful thing is that you don’t have to figure everything out today. You don’t need to have a plan or know exactly what comes next.

Sometimes healing begins with something much simpler.

Noticing.
Listening.
Responding with a little more compassion than criticism.

Maybe that’s enough for today 🤍

08/07/2026

When I’m stressed, my instinct is usually to keep going. I’ll sit at my desk a little longer, try to think my way through it, or tell myself I’ll slow down later.

But our bodies don’t always work that way.
When we experience stress, our nervous system prepares us for action. That’s why you might notice restless legs, tight shoulders, pacing, jaw tension, or feeling like you can’t quite settle.

Sometimes what your body needs isn’t to think harder.

It needs to move.
A short walk.
A gentle stretch.
Rolling your shoulders.
Shaking out your hands.

These small moments of movement can help your body begin to move through and complete its stress response instead of holding onto that tension.

It’s not about getting a workout in or “earning” rest. It’s about listening to what your body has been asking for all along.

Sometimes the smallest movement can be the first step toward helping your nervous system feel safe enough to settle.
