A little reminder from the Shine team for the months ahead: you don’t have to do summer perfectly.

We asked some of our therapists what they hope every client remembers during this season, and their answers all came back to the same idea: give yourself room to be human, enjoy what you can, and listen to what you need 💛

Swipe through for a few words of encouragement from the people behind Shine.

A lunch date, a puppy photoshoot, and a reminder that the smallest moments can make the biggest difference. 🐶☀️

Taking time to laugh, connect, and soak up a little joy is sometimes exactly what the day needs. 💛

We often think of stress as something that happens in our thoughts, but the body experiences it too.

Many people become so accustomed to carrying tension that it begins to feel normal. Tight shoulders, interrupted sleep, headaches, difficulty focusing, or feeling constantly “on” can gradually become part of everyday life without us realizing how much our nervous system has adapted.

Therapy encourages us to become curious about these patterns instead of ignoring them.

Listening to your body isn’t about becoming hyperaware of every sensation. It’s about recognizing that your body is constantly offering information, often long before your mind has fully caught up.

The more we learn to notice those signals with compassion, the more opportunities we have to care for ourselves before stress becomes overwhelming.

Resilience has become one of those words that often gets misunderstood.

It’s not about pushing through at all costs or pretending difficult things don’t affect you. In fact, resilience often looks much quieter than that.

It looks like recognizing when you need support. It looks like allowing yourself to pause before burnout. It looks like responding to setbacks with curiosity instead of shame.

Life will always bring seasons of challenge. Resilience isn’t about avoiding them. It’s about developing the internal resources to move through them without losing yourself in the process.

And that’s something that can be nurtured, strengthened, and supported over time.

Safe relationships reduce the need for performance.

Many people don’t realize how exhausting it is to constantly justify their emotions, soften their needs, or over-explain their boundaries until they experience a relationship where those things are no longer required.

Emotionally safe relationships create room for imperfection, pauses, honesty, and repair.

Not every conversation needs to feel like something you have to survive.

Many people come to therapy hoping they can stop feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or hurt without realizing that our emotional system doesn’t quite work that way.

When we spend a great deal of energy pushing difficult emotions away, we often find that joy, excitement, connection, and wonder become quieter too.

Healing isn’t about feeling happy all the time. It’s about developing the capacity to experience the full range of being human with greater flexibility, self-understanding, and compassion.

The goal isn’t fewer emotions. The goal is feeling safer experiencing them.

Not every reason to reach out to a therapist looks like a crisis. Sometimes it looks like a new job that should feel exciting but mostly feels disorienting. A move to a place you chose but don’t yet feel at home in. A new baby being welcomed into the family. A friendship that has quietly shifted. A version of yourself you seem to be outgrowing without quite knowing what comes next.

Transitions - even the ones we wanted, even the ones we planned for - ask something real of our nervous system. And the grief that lives inside this change doesn’t always get the space or acknowledgment it deserves.

This month on the blog, we’re writing about how therapy and music therapy can meaningfully support the in-between moments of life. The moments that don’t necessarily have a dramatic name, but that the body feels deeply nonetheless.

You don’t have to be falling apart to deserve support. Sometimes you just have to be in the middle of something 💛

If you’ve ever found yourself replaying a conversation hours, or even days, later, you’re certainly not alone.

Our minds naturally look for patterns and meaning. When an interaction feels uncertain, the brain sometimes treats it like an unfinished puzzle that needs solving. While reflection can be helpful, overthinking often keeps us stuck in possibilities rather than reality.

One of the goals of therapy isn’t to eliminate thoughtful reflection. It’s to build enough internal trust that you no longer feel responsible for analyzing every interaction in order to feel safe.

You are allowed to let a conversation end without carrying it with you for the rest of the day.

Notice who allows you to soften. Notice where conversation feels spacious instead of performative. And notice the relationships that leave you feeling more like yourself afterward, not less.

A restorative relationship does not mean a perfect one. Conflict, misunderstanding, and difficult moments still happen.

The difference is in what happens next.

Safe relationships allow for repair. They create emotional consistency instead of unpredictability. Over time, this consistency helps the nervous system settle and trust connection again.
