Pass the WOW! Creating a culture of appreciation:

After the REX Academy Leadership Conference, I was inspired to keep the momentum going from the incredible connection and sense of community our group developed in such a short time.

I came home with so many golden nuggets, but one idea really captured my heart: building a strong community and culture within an organization.

Not just recognizing what someone does, but appreciating how they do it—with integrity, kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine care.

And sometimes, the most meaningful recognition is simply taking a moment to say, “I see you. What you do matters.”

So, I started the Pass the WOW Project at the Club! 🎾✨

Here’s how it works:

We have one special Longfellow tennis ball with “You Are Awesome” written on it. The ball gets passed from colleague to colleague, across departments and throughout the Club.

To kick things off, I thought about someone on my team who deserved a little recognition.

Maybe they went above and beyond.
Maybe they made my day easier.
Maybe they helped a member.
Maybe they brought incredible energy to the Club.
Maybe they supported a colleague.
Or maybe they simply have a quality that makes them awesome to work with.

I passed the WOW Ball to that person along with a short, handwritten note explaining why I chose them.

It could be as simple as:

“I’m passing you the WOW Ball because you always bring such positive energy to the team. You make everyone around you feel welcome, and that doesn’t go unnoticed!”

The goal isn't to recognize the biggest accomplishment or the person who did the most.

It’s about noticing the little things that make our team special and taking the time to let someone know that what they do matters.

And then…the ball keeps moving! 🎾

Once you receive it, you take a moment to think about someone else’s WOW factor, write them a note, and pass it along.

My hope for this project is that it helps us:

✨ Build stronger relationships
✨ Recognize and appreciate our colleagues
✨ Celebrate the qualities that make our team special
✨ Create a culture where people feel seen and valued
✨ And, most importantly, create more WOW experiences for one another

Because you never know when a small note of appreciation might be exactly what someone needs to brighten their day. 💙

We are now in Week 2 of Pass the WOW, and it has already been a HUGE WOW!

The energy, camaraderie, laughter—and yes, even a few tears of joy—have been incredible to witness.

It has reminded me that culture isn't something you simply create with a mission statement. You create it through the small things you do for one another every day.

So now, I’m passing the WOW on to you.

Who on your team deserves a little WOW today?

Grab a ball, write a note, and pass it on. 🎾💙

As I continue to grow in my role as Group Training Director at Longfellow Wellesley Tennis & Health Club, I was honored to attend the Rex Academy Leadership Conference.

The knowledge, ideas, and connections I gained exceeded every expectation. I left inspired with countless “golden nuggets” that I’m excited to bring back to our club. From enhancing the member experience and strengthening our team culture to expanding our Small Group Training, Pilates Reformer, and Group Exercise programs, the future is full of exciting possibilities.

One of my biggest takeaways? Never stop being curious. Keep reading. Keep learning. Keep growing. That’s where the magic begins.

P.S. We even wrapped up the conference with a plank and push-up challenge. Leadership, learning, and a little sweat, that’s how we roll! 💪

Walking:

I am super excited to share that I kicked off a Walk Into Wellness Program in my new position as Group Training Director at Longfellow Wellesley Tennis & Health Club. More details heading your way, but I wanted to share a beautiful message from DailyOm, who I follow.

I started my wonderful position last August. At first, I was terrified to leave my company of Positively Active after 17 years! But I embraced the door of opportunity that opened and the outcome has been more than I could ever have anticipated.

Wishing everyone courage and faith to walk through your door of opportunity as well.

OPENING DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY:

When a door opens, walk through them. Trust that the door has opened for a reason, and you have been guided to it. Sometimes we have a tendency to overanalyze or agonize over the decision, but it is quicker to simply go through the door and discover what’s there as that’s the only way to know. Even if it doesn’t seem right at first, opening this door may lead to another door that will take us where we need to go.

Doors open when the time is right for us to enter a new space, metaphorically speaking, and we can have faith that walking through is the right thing to do. Sometimes we linger in the threshold because we are afraid of leaving our old life for a life we know nothing about. We may have voices inside of our heads that try to hold us back or people in our lives saying discouraging things. These voices, internal and external, are known as threshold spirits, and they express all the fears and doubts that arise at the beginning of a new life. Nevertheless, none of these voices can hold us back, and they will fall silent as soon as we cross the threshold.

There are many doors that open in the course of our lives, leading us into new relationships, jobs, friendships, and creative inspirations. Our lives up to this point are the result of all the doors we have walked through, and our continued growth depends on our willingness to keep moving into new spaces. Every time we walk through an open door, we create a sense memory that encourages us to move into the new fearlessly. When we enter the new space, we almost always feel a thrill and a new feeling of confidence, in ourselves and in the universe. We have stepped across the threshold into a new life.

Our first record day in Boston! It was well worth waiting in Line to see Marco’s face when Good Taste Records had the album he was hoping to find. The Cult’s “Weapon of Choice.” Thanks to Cody for being an incredible local Record Store owner, music enthusiasts and host as hundreds of music fans waited in line for hours for his store.

Marco helped make today very special by taking me into Boston to explore holiday markets, drink hot chocolate and enjoy the festivities of the North End. Priceless.

I read this article in my Daily motivation newsletter this morning and I thought it was very suiting for me to post since I love to walk and I lead Powerwalking groups. It also uses two of my favourite words, Positive and Action!

I hope this article inspires you to take a few minutes today (or more) to move. By the way, what you are about to read, you already know. All you have to do is apply it. 😉

One Positive Action: Stroll, Not Scroll

How many times today have you picked up your phone without even thinking about it? You're waiting in line, between tasks, or just sitting on the couch, and your hand reaches for it automatically. A quick scroll can feel like a break, but it rarely gives your mind what it actually needs. You end up overstimulated instead of rested, full of noise instead of calm.

The problem is scrolling doesn't actually rest your brain; it floods it with more information, more comparisons, more things to react to. Studies show that excessive screen time increases stress and decreases your ability to focus. You almost always put your phone down feeling more scattered than when you picked it up.

Here's a simple swap for you to try. When you reach for your phone out of habit, go outside instead. Step outside, even if it's just for a few minutes, walk around the block, stand in your yard, feel the air, notice the light, and pay attention to how your body loosens as you move. That simple change pulls your focus back into the real world and clears the mental fog that screens often create.

Walking activates your body in a way that helps regulate your nervous system. When you move, your brain releases endorphins and reduces cortisol. Being outside exposes you to natural light, which helps regulate your circadian rhythm and improves your mood. Walking gives your mind space to breathe and helps you process thoughts instead of avoiding them. Even a few minutes outside can reset your energy and make the rest of your day feel lighter.

The next time you catch yourself reaching for your phone out of habit, pause and take a short walk instead. No music, no messages, no phone; just you and the world around you. Notice what changes in how you feel. Let the movement bring you back to yourself.
