The pelvic floor muscles are just like any other muscles; they contract and relax. If you are only strengthening them, you are only doing part the work.

C-section rehab doesn't have to be just about the scar. Combining scar therapy with functional movements, core work, correcting posture and imbalances, and breath mechanics, among other strategies, can be helpful with overall rehab from pregnancy and labor. As a rehab professional for 10 years, I've found that accountability is a common factor when it comes to sticking with your program. That's why I offer in-person, online, and in-app programming to check-in with you what ever way works with your busy lifestyle.

Science has shown there is very little evidence to support specific strategies to help "close the gap". Researchers have studied specific core & pelvic floor strengthening, abdominal supports and other rehabilitation strategies and they've come to the conclusion that there is NO SPECIFIC DIASTASIS RECTI PROTOCOL that truly reduces distance. So does this mean nothing can be done? Throw rehab out the window? No.

What does this really mean?
🏋️‍♀️ still matters! It is still considered priority especially in
🙋‍♀️BUT it needs to ️be individualized programming-a tailored program that works for you!
📅Consistency! You can have the best program designed for you, but if you don't do your homework and keep up you might not reap the benefits
💫 Treatment for should be holistic. The focus of the should be on strength, load/pressure management, functionality AND QUALITY OF LIFE in addition to trying to close the gap.

Most healthcare providers treat your pain and address your concerns/symptoms. Trainers help you get stronger and fit. Move In Synergy bridges that gap.

Move In Synergy offers a unique skillset when it comes to Pelvic Health. Alicia is a Registered Kinesiologist with background in pelvic health.

My goal is to help you return to physical activity with confidence.

My practice is movement specific, meaning we use active modalities to treat and rehabilitate. Whether you are wanting to train for a 5km without leaks, get back to the gym postpartum or just lift and play with your child a little easier, every exercise is chosen specifically with your goals in mind. Then we progress you so your body is prepared for whatever demands you put onto yourself.

If you were given the "OK to exercise" but not sure where to go from here, that is where Move In Synergy can help.

There is a huge debate about when to return to regular activity postpartum and I think the "6 week rule" is the major contributor to the confusion. Here me out...

You see your trainer, pelvic floor therapist, Kinesiologist (me 🙋🏽‍♀️) during pregnancy. You deliver and then wait to hear from your OB at 6 weeks if you can exercise or not. But what does "Yes, Susan, you can exercise as tolerated now" really mean? Do you have to start from scratch, can you get back to training for your half marathon or join your community fitness class? You take this "yes" or "no" from the OB who..to be honest... hasn't seen you move, exercise or assessed you physically in any way. Which isn't their job anyway, they are assessing you based on how you presented during and after labor.

So! Why not trust your healthcare provider, who focuses on movement analysis and pelvic health to get you to a starting point. Even an assessment will get you feeling at the very least a little more confident in what you CAN do.

Changes to the body don't happen overnight and they surely don't ONLY happen during labour. Throughout pregnancy, your body gradually adapts as your baby grows:

✨ Muscles lengthen while others become tighter

✨️ Tendons can become lax, especially in the hips

✨ Postures change to accommodate a growing baby

✨️ Some births come with injuries, surgeries or other complications requiring rehabilitation

Then comes postpartum. While everyone talks about getting "bouncing back," the reality is recovery takes time, support, and rehabilitation whether you had a vaginal delivery or a cesarean birth, easy or hard delivery, full term or not.

If you're feeling unsure where to start with postpartum recovery, send me a DM for a FREE consultation.

Because moms deserve support, too.
