🚨 Dr. Heidi here. Yes, I’ve officially reclaimed the socials from Cesar before he adds “full-time hype man” to his LinkedIn. 🚨⁣

First — thank you. I honestly wasn’t expecting the response to the last post. The messages, comments, encouragement, and jokes from friends, colleagues, students, and fellow over-committers were greatly appreciated (and painfully accurate).⁣
⁣
Now we head west to my alma mater.⁣
⁣
Huge congratulations to the 2026 CCNM-Boucher campus graduating class at Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Convocation is such a meaningful milestone, and I know firsthand how much work, sacrifice, persistence, and support from partners, family, friends, pets, and caffeine it takes to get there.⁣
⁣
Earlier today, I had the privilege of introducing Dr. Matthew Greenwood, ND, this year's Convocation Address Speaker, and presenting the Governor's Award recipient.⁣
⁣
𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞.⁣
⁣
See, already cutting back from the Toronto convocation — progress.⁣
⁣
What I love most about convocation is that it's more than academic achievement. It’s a room full of people who chose a profession rooted in service, curiosity, advocacy, and caring for communities in ways that aren’t always easy or visible.⁣
⁣
And despite what Cesar may imply, there is no healthcare "𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦."⁣
⁣
There is mostly just:⁣
⁣
• a very full calendar⁣
• chronic overcommitment⁣
• colour-coded reminders (I am not kidding, I bought pens for the occasion)⁣
• and a genuine belief that healthcare and education can always be improved⁣
⁣
Serving on the CCNM Board — and now as 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 — continues to be one of the greatest honours of my career because I get to witness the future of the profession firsthand through students and graduates who care deeply about the work ahead.⁣
⁣
To the CCNM-Boucher graduates: enjoy this moment. Celebrate yourselves properly. Take the photos. Hug your people. Let yourself feel proud of what you accomplished.⁣
⁣
Have a rest.⁣
⁣
You have earned it.⁣
⁣
And Cesar — thank you for the very public support, even if giving you temporary access to the socials was objectively risky.⁣

🚨 SOCIAL TEMPORARILY HIJACKED BY CESAR (𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘳 / 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘥) 🚨⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m temporarily taking over this channel today because some moments deserve a more personal perspective.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
First off, congratulations to the 2026 Toronto campus graduating class at Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Convocation is a huge milestone — years of work, sacrifice, resilience, and too much caffeine all culminating in today.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Today, in her first year as 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫, Dr. Heidi Standeven, ND presented the Honorary Degree Recipient, the Governor’s Award, and led the Naturopathic Oath at convocation.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And honestly, watching her up there felt like the natural outcome of someone who keeps saying “𝘠𝘦𝘴” to more responsibility than any reasonable person should accept.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Over the years I’ve watched Dr. Heidi:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
* serve 5 years on the CCNM Board before becoming Board Chair⁣⁣
* help found the UGM outreach clinic since Nov 2023⁣⁣
* start an MBA this January because free time is apparently suspicious⁣⁣
* continue mentoring, advocating, and showing up for people in ways that rarely make a spotlight⁣⁣
⁣⁣
At this point, “𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨” is basically her default setting.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Which is why I jokingly (maybe) call it her healthcare “𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
(Not in a status way — more in a “how is one person doing all of this at once?” way.)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What people see at convocation is the formal version of Dr. Heidi.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What I see is someone who takes on more than she should, cares more than she has to, and somehow still shows up for patients, students, and communities with consistency that doesn’t make sense on paper.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Not perfect.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Not trying to be impressive.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Just relentlessly trying to be better.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Watching that over time has changed how I see healthcare, leadership, and community.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s also pushed me to step outside my comfort zone — from joining my first board with Downtown New Westminster to co-presenting with Dr. Heidi at Douglas College.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐨 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐢 — especially seeing you shine while leading the Naturopathic Oath today!⁣⁣

About bloody time!

For years, I’ve been explaining to patients — often while getting very puzzled looks — that they have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) despite not actually having cystic ovaries.

That’s because the defining feature of PCOS isn’t, strangely enough, ovarian cysts.
PCOS is a complex hormone and metabolic condition that affects the whole body and may — or may not — involve cysts on the ovaries.

Now medicine has finally caught up with what many of us have known for years.

The new name? Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

A far more accurate name that recognizes the complexity of the condition.

🌸 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 — 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬.

For years, many women have had to pay out-of-pocket for menopausal hormone therapy.

As of March 1, 2026, many menopausal hormone therapies are now fully covered under BC’s Pharmacare plan — reducing financial barriers and improving access to care.

Perimenopause and menopause are not niche issues. They affect half the population.

Today we celebrate women — and meaningful steps toward better support for their health at every stage of life.

At our clinic, we support patients through perimenopause and menopause and help them explore treatment options that are right for them.

Homelessness Action Week is over, but we’re still collecting essential cold-weather items for our community.

🚨Our ongoing donation focus: Emergency thermal blankets (available via Amazon or local retailers).

Socks, men’s underwear (new), and $10 grocery or Tim Hortons gift cards are also welcome.
Donations can be dropped off at the clinic or picked up in downtown New Westminster.

Donations accepted to the beginning of November, with all items distributed via UGM New Westminster.
