A little behind the scenes in the footcare office today…

It’s a rainy, in-between-patients kind of day — which means it’s the perfect time to catch up on some of the things you don’t always see.

Today I’m 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁! 🤍

Some of the biggest and most important parts of running a footcare practice happen quietly behind the scenes — and, honestly, 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘵𝘰𝘰.

But doing these things means holding myself and my practice accountable to the 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲. It means maintaining the 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 — 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱. ✨

And somehow, all of this behind-the-scenes work feels a little easier on a rainy day or when I see the most beautiful little notes left behind by my daughter — As I sat beside my printer getting through what needed to be done, I looked over and found the cutest little notes — 𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘨𝘰. Even if though she’s a constant reminder (𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸… 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘣 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘺!)

How could I not smile and keep getting things done right?

She is, without a doubt, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗛𝗬𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀. ❤️

So here’s a little glimpse at the parts of footcare you may not always see — 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻… all the little details that help me provide the 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧, 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗜 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻.

Well… 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒔! 𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖.

You welcome me into your home, and I provide your nursing footcare right there in the comfort of your own space. (And truly, thank you for welcoming me into your homes — I never take that for granted! 😍)

Today, 𝑰’𝒎 𝒎𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒂𝒚! My day started in Springhill, then I headed down the road, taking in the beautiful scenery along the way, to continue my day in Amherst before making my way around to see a few more patients bringing me back to finish out on home ground.

Pugwash, Springhill and Oxford are some of my main serving areas, but I travel 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑪𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒚 and into the communities and rural areas branching from our towns and villages. If you’re wondering whether I travel to your area, just ask!

And honestly, being mobile has some pretty beautiful perks. 🥰

There’s the “downtime” between appointments — music playing, fresh air coming through the windows, sunshine, and scenery that changes with every drive.

But more importantly, there’s the opportunity to provide care in a way that is 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍.

No arranging transportation.
No worrying about getting out of the house.
No sitting in a clinic waiting room(mine included!)

𝑰 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖.

And it just so happens that the sunset photo featured in this post is one of my 𝒂𝒍𝒍-𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 I’ve ever taken while on the road.

I loved it so much that I actually had it printed and gave a copy to the owners of the farm just up on the hill in the photo. I have absolutely no idea who they were — but their home looked 𝒔𝒐 𝒈𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒐𝒖𝒔 sitting there in that sunset, and I felt like they deserved to have it.

I genuinely enjoy being mobile and traveling to my clients, but there’s something about 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 that makes mobile visits feel even more relaxing. Maybe it’s the cooler air, the changing leaves, and that cozy feeling that comes with the season. There’s just something about it!

I originally had most of the third week of September open, but my calendar has filled up quickly.

How is it Friday already?! 😳 Where did this week even go?!

I know I truly haven’t had a moment to breathe with how busy things have been, but WOW… Friday already?! This week absolutely flew by!

The weather truly couldn’t have been any better for enjoying some much-needed vacation time — lots of beach days, time with friends and family, and coordinating the Lobster Crate Run race event as part of HarbourFest Volunteer.

Essentially, all the things that fill my cup outside of being your Footcare Nurse. My cup is full, my heart is happy, and I’m feeling refreshed and ready to return! 🥰

But … okay, let’s try this again. I think I’m officially on vacation starting now!

Although, let’s be honest… you’re never really “on vacation” when you’re an owner-operator. My week still looks a little something like this:

🫶🏼Following up on a veteran patient’s K number and authorization process.

🫶🏼Contacting an insurance provider to clarify a patient’s coverage because they’re having difficulty—and I always want to make sure my patients receive the care they deserve.

🫶🏼Touching base with my summer cottagers before they head home to help connect them with continued foot care in their own communities. Thank goodness for professional associations! (And remember, you can also contact 211 for healthcare resources.) I personally enjoy reaching out because I love supporting my fellow foot care colleagues whenever I can. ❤️

🫶🏼Tracking down the perfect Certified Pedorthist for a complex amputation patient. I truly believe my patients deserve the very best, and I’ll always go the extra mile to make sure they’re in the best hands.

🫶🏼Making the exciting switch from paper charting to electronic charting! 😍 Along with medical orders, paperwork, and all the other behind-the-scenes tasks that come with running a practice.

By the time I’m back from vacation, I’m hoping to have all my ducks in a row… think I can pull it off? 😅There is so much that happens behind the scenes that many people never get to see!

Healing takes time. Healthy feet don’t happen overnight.

One of the most rewarding parts of providing professional Nursing Footcare is watching the transformation that happens over time.

After a visit, many patients tell me their feet feel “like I’m walking on clouds.” That immediate comfort is wonderful—but some of the most meaningful improvements don’t happen in a single appointment.

They happen through consistent care, education, and trust in the process.

Many foot conditions have developed over months—or even years. It only makes sense that restoring healthy tissue, improving skin integrity, supporting circulation, and promoting healthier nail growth takes time as well.

Here are just a few examples I’ve had the privilege of witnessing:

🦶 Onychomycosis (in this particular situation— fungal infection of the great toenail): With routine care every four weeks, appropriate treatment, and patient commitment, a severely affected hallux nail returned to healthy growth over approximately six months.

🦶 Chronic heel fissures: One patient had been attempting to manage painful, deep heel cracks with household glue(YES! My patients tell me this truthfully, I appreciate it wholeheartedly!). Through regular debridement, education, moisturizing, and ongoing Nursing Footcare, their heels are now soft, fissures have resolved, and protective sensation has returned.

🦶 Poor circulation and cyanotic feet: With consistent foot care, proper education in excercises and compression — skin condition improved, circulation visibly increased, and the appearance of the lower limbs became noticeably healthier.

🦶 Painful plantar calluses beneath the fifth metatarsal head: After months of routine care, pressure reduction, education, and preventative management, the calluses resolved completely—along with the pain that had been affecting daily life.

These are the victories that remind me why I love what I do.

As Nurses, we often say healing isn’t measured in days—it’s measured in progress.

Every appointment builds on the last. Every reduction in pressure, every healthy millimetre of nail growth, every healed fissure, every callus prevented, and every conversation about proper footcare contributes to healthier feet and a better quality of life.

If you’re hoping for an instant cure, I understand—I wish every condition could be resolved that quickly. But the greatest results come from consistency and patience.

Please don’t give up if your progress feels slow.

Trust the process. Stay consistent. Celebrate the small wins.

Months from now, you’ll be grateful you started the care.

Nursing Footcare isn’t simply about making your feet feel better for the day—it’s about protecting your mobility, preserving your independence, preventing complications, and investing in your overall health for years to come.

The truth is, your feet carry you through life.

A couple of unexpected cancellations turned into a schedule shift that made for a smoother, more punctual day with back-to-back appointments.

I was able to fit in a super deep clean—a pretty great way to spend a rainy afternoon! And after hearing “not today” earlier this morning about picking up my vehicle, everything fell into place by the end of the day, and I was able to get that into my schedule (iykyk😅)

Friday is already looking a little lighter… for now! 😌

One thing I know for sure: ending the day with a well-rounded, productive schedule and having my patient chair ready for another day is something I’m grateful for every single evening.

Thank you to everyone who chooses me and trusts me with your care. Being able to provide a service I’m truly passionate about is a privilege I never take for granted ❤️🥹

Happy Friday!

I’ve been a little MIA on here lately because it’s been very busy caring for clients—and I’m so grateful for it 🥰

Just a heads-up for anyone visiting me at my clinic space:

Parking is not as easily accessible as it once was while the barricades and construction remain in place at the neighbouring parking area. As several business owners operate within the building, parking can become quite limited on days when we are all working and patients/clients are coming and going throughout the day.

Please allow yourself a few extra minutes before your appointment and use caution when navigating the area.

It is also recommended that you park in the lower section of the parking lot whenever possible. Parking in the upper section may result in you being blocked in, as there is currently no throughway and limited space available for maneuvering vehicles safely.

I’ve also had many people ask whether the hospital parking lot is still accessible. The answer is yes—it remains fully accessible. You can access it as you normally would and simply follow the posted signage.
