This work isn't what you might think it is.
“Oh, you’re a hypnotherapist? So you help people quit smoking?”
Or…
“I should come see you to lose some weight!”
I hear versions of this all the time.
And honestly, I understand why. Hypnosis has a pretty specific reputation.
There’s a common idea that hypnosis means someone plants a new idea in your mind and suddenly you no longer want ci******es, reach for certain foods, or struggle with whatever behavior you want to change.
But that’s not really what I do.
The work I do is about understanding what’s happening underneath the behavior.
Why do you keep reaching for something you’ve already decided you don’t want?
Why does the same pattern keep showing up, even when you know it isn’t serving you?
What experiences shaped the way you respond to stress, relationships, uncertainty—or yourself?
What emotions have become connected to those patterns?
What beliefs did you learn about who you are, what you’re capable of, or what you deserve?
This is where my work begins.
Through hypnotherapy, subconscious work, root-cause approaches, somatic tools and other techniques, I help people develop more awareness of what is happening beneath the surface.
Because awareness creates space.
Space gives you an opportunity to pause instead of automatically reacting. To recognize a pattern instead of being run by it. To notice what your emotions and body are communicating. To acknowledge and process what may be underneath it.
And from there, something important becomes possible:
choice.
This is why the scope of this work is so much bigger than quitting smoking or losing weight.
Those things might bring someone through the door, but they’re often part of a much bigger picture.
When you understand yourself differently, you can begin to approach your life differently too.
Not because someone has magically changed you, but because you have a deeper understanding of yourself, new perspectives, and tools you can actually use.
That is the work I do.
And it has grown far beyond what the word hypnotherapy can really capture.
I think it’s time I started talking about that.
More soon.
