Meet Michelle šŸ‘‹ā¤ļø

You may have noticed a new name popping up around Shift lately, so it’s time to officially introduce you to Michelle!

As Shift has grown, so have the calls, texts, emails and all the behind-the-scenes things that come with running a busy clinic. I still get all of your messages on my phone, but now Michelle gets them too, helping make sure nothing gets missed!

She’s helping with phones, emails, follow-ups and some of the backend admin, which means I can spend more time doing what I love: taking care of you.

But before she becomes the mysterious person answering your emails šŸ˜‚, I wanted you to actually get to know her!

So, who is Michelle?

She’s a mom of two, has been calling Red Deer home for almost 15 years and spends a lot of her time keeping up with the beautiful chaos of family life, kids in sports and a husband who sometimes works on the road.

When she’s not keeping everyone’s schedules somewhat organized, you’ll probably find her watching sports. Her top three are NFL, hockey and curling. Yes, curling made the list ( !)

She’s also gotten more into strength training as she’s gotten older, realizing that building a strong foundation now is pretty important for being able to stay active for years to come. She loves walking, riding her bike with the kids, travelling and trying new things, even when they push her outside her comfort zone.

She enjoys cooking, absolutely hates baking šŸ˜‚ and has had enough baking flops to know that she much prefers eating someone else’s baking.

And finally, her most important fact…

Miss Vickie’s sea salt & malt vinegar chips are her guilty pleasure. Apparently there isn’t a day she doesn’t crave them!

Basically, Michelle understands busy families, busy schedules and the general chaos that comes with trying to do all the things.

And a little PSA for my baby clients šŸ‘¶

If you’re trying to get your baby in and my online schedule looks full, call or text us anyway! Michelle can take a look at what might be possible and keep an eye out for cancellations or openings.

No promises, but it never hurts to ask! šŸ˜‰

Welcome to the Shift team Michelle! We’re so happy to have you. ā¤ļø

It’s been quite the year. šŸ’—

I quietly passed my one year anniversary last week. No huge celebration, no big party, just a moment to stop and realize how much has happened in the past year.

A year ago, I took a big leap and went out on my own, not really knowing exactly what the next year would look like. And somehow, here we are, with an amazing, active client list that keeps me busy every day I’m in the clinic.

I am SO proud of what I’ve accomplished over this past year. More than I probably give myself credit for most days.

And so much of that is because of you.

I am so incredibly thankful for each and every one of you who has walked through my door. For every appointment, every referral, every kind word, every friend you’ve sent my way, and every time you’ve spoken positively about me and my little room here in the community.

ā€œThankfulā€ honestly doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel.

So, as a little thank you for supporting me throughout this past year, I wanted to give some of that support right back to the community that has given me so much.

For every appointment over the past year, I’m donating $1 to help local kids, because every kid deserves the chance to play, get the support they need, and simply be a kid. šŸ’—

And because I couldn’t decide between two amazing organizations, I’m splitting the donation between KidSport Red Deer and Aspire.

As of right now, that total is $1,250. 🄹

Which feels HUGE.

And the best part? That $1,250 exists because of YOU. Every appointment, referral, conversation, and little bit of support helped make this possible.

Thank you for trusting me, cheering me on, and allowing me to be a small part of your lives and your families lives.

I’m so, so thankful for this community. I’m incredibly proud of this first year, and I can’t wait to see where this next year takes me.

Here’s to Year Two. šŸ’—āœØ

And maybe the biggest lesson...

We spend so much of our lives waiting.

Waiting until we have more time, until we feel stronger, until we're fitter, until we're pain-free, until we're more confident.

The truth is, life doesn't magically get easier one day. Most of the best moments happen while we're still figuring it out.

If I had waited until I felt completely ready to run 34 km, I probably never would have stood at that start line. There were moments during that race when I questioned everything. Moments where I wanted to stop and I have the texts to my husband to prove it. But every step reminded me that our bodies are incredibly resilient when we learn to work with them instead of constantly fighting them.

That's why I love what I do.

Every day I get to help people move toward their finish line. And for most people, it isn't crossing a race finish line. It's picking up their kids without thinking twice. Going on that hike they've been avoiding. Sleeping through the night. Playing a game of soccer in the backyard. Getting back to the gym. Feeling confident enough to book the trip, sign up for the class, or simply say "yes" to life again.

Those milestones matter just as much.

So stop waiting for the perfect time. Start where you are. Listen to your body instead of fearing it. Give it movement, rest, nourishment, and patience. Keep showing up, even if today's version of showing up looks different than yesterday's.

Because your body doesn't have to be perfect to do amazing things.

And every finish line, no matter how big or small, is worth celebrating. šŸ¤

Sorry but healing after birth isn’t meant to be rushed.

Somewhere along the way we decided moms should be fine at 6 weeks. That 6 weeks is all it takes to be back to normal, back to your workouts, back to daily living. Meanwhile your body is still dealing with all the adaptations to pregnancy, labour, birth, no sleep, and carrying for this tiny human all day and night.

And then we wonder why things feel off. Why we are feeling tight, tired, leaky, and disconnected from ourselves.

That’s not you failing!
That’s your body doing its best without enough support.

You don’t need to push harder
You need more time and better support

You’re not behind
You’re rebuilding
