The Goal of Mainstream is: "That all people are able to develop their full potential as individuals with respect and dignity, enjoy integration in the community and have the opportunity to prepare for the future." This goal challenges the community to have each of its citizens experience equality, individuality and social role valorization. The dignity and selfrespect that people enjoy in their ow

n communities are a result of a supportive environment that fosters personal growth, self-reliance and acceptance. In working towards this goal, Mainstream will provide the necessary resources and supports to ensure that individuals who have a developmental challenge:

• have the opportunity to lead full and productive lives and have the ability to recognize and reach their potential in the competitive work place

• are made aware of services and programs available to them in the community

• have access to affordable housing

• be valued contributors in the community with due recognition of their accomplishments

Recognizing that our daily experience goes hand-in-hand with our quality of life, our aim is to provide the necessary tools that will enable each individual to:

• exercise self direction and ownership of choices

• develop academic, vocational, life and social skills and realize their full potential

• deal with real life situations effectively

• enjoy friendships and other supportive relationships

• exercise their rights and responsibilities

In conclusion, Mainstream is all about people supporting people. It upholds the ideas of mutual respect, the value of individuality and openmindedness toward the ever changing needs of its people.

Together, we are now Marathon Community Services.

Marathon reflects the combined strength, experience, and shared values of both organizations while continuing the same commitment to person-centred supports, safe and affordable housing, and community partnerships.

While our name has changed, our purpose has not.

Thank you so much Councillor Ratzlaff for your support for our project. We believe everyone deserves safe, affordable and supportive housing. Your advocacy means the world to us. We are working tirelessly to make this a reality.

It was a pleasure to welcome Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch for a discussion about two exciting initiatives that will help shape the future of our organization and strengthen services across our community.

We shared details about our new supportive housing project in Welland, which is set to begin construction this summer. The development will provide 24 one-bedroom units, creating safe, stable, and supportive homes for individuals who need housing combined with supports. This project represents an important step forward in addressing housing needs in our community and helping people achieve greater stability and independence.

We also discussed the upcoming amalgamation of Mainstream and Gateway, a transformative initiative that will strengthen our ability to serve individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, housing instability and complex support needs. By bringing our organizations together, we are creating new opportunities to enhance service delivery, increase collaboration, and improve outcomes for the people and families we support.

Thank you, Jeff, for taking the time to learn more about these important initiatives and for your continued interest in building stronger, more inclusive communities throughout Niagara.
