Today is International Self-Care Day, but I think self-care is often misunderstood.
It’s easy to picture bubble baths, spa days, or treating yourself. Those things can absolutely be enjoyable, but real self-care goes much deeper than that.
Your body is constantly working to adapt, recover, heal, and keep you functioning—even when you’re stressed, busy, not sleeping well, or dealing with pain.
Self-care is about supporting those natural processes.
Sometimes that means getting enough sleep.
Sometimes it means moving your body.
Sometimes it means slowing down, eating well, or taking time to recover.
And sometimes it means paying attention to a symptom you’ve been living with instead of assuming it’s “just part of getting older.”
The goal isn’t to have a perfect body.
The goal is to give your body the support it needs to function as well as it can.
Today, ask yourself one simple question:
What’s one thing I could do this week that would genuinely support how my body functions?
I’d love to hear your answer in the comments.
