Ever tried to meditate or "think positively" when you were in a full-blown panic? It rarely works.

That’s because when your "higher-order" brain is offline, you can’t access logic or meditation. You have to start with the body.

The Two Approaches:

Top-Down: Using mindfulness, meditation, and cognitive reframing. These are wonderful, but they require your "thinking brain" to be online first.

Bottom-Up: Using your senses, movement, touch, and breath. This is how we bring the "thinking brain" back online when it’s gone offline.

At our centre, we often start bottom-up. By regulating the body first, we create the safety needed for the mind to follow. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don't try to "think" your way out—try to "move" or "breathe" your way back to yourself. 🌿

What if you could "train" your brain to be more resilient? 🧠✨

Infralow Neurofeedback is a non-invasive way to help the brain regulate itself. By monitoring your brainwaves in real-time and providing gentle feedback, we help your brain "see" its own patterns.

The goal: To help the brain move out of rigid, stuck states (like chronic anxiety or hyper-arousal) and into a more flexible, regulated state. It’s like a workout for your nervous system, helping you build the capacity to stay calm, even when life gets loud.

There is a specific kind of magic that happens in this office. ✨

It’s the moment a client who has been carrying the heavy weight of guilt and shame for years finally looks in the mirror and says, "I am proud of myself."

It’s the relief in a client’s voice when they realize their "stuckness" isn't a character flaw—it’s just their nervous system trying to protect them.

We are so incredibly grateful to do this work. To witness the shifts, the relief, and the breakthroughs is why we show up every single day. If you’re looking for a space where you can be seen, heard, and supported as you reclaim your life, we are here. 🤍

Multiple things can be true at one time: You can be proud of the resilience that got you through your hardest chapters, and also be incredibly tired of having to be 'strong' all the time.

We often wear our resilience like a badge of honour. But resilience is exhausting at times. It is okay to set down the 'strong' persona. It is okay to be soft, to be tired, and to ask for help. You don't have to be the anchor for everyone else 24/7.

Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is stop carrying it all by yourself.

Having someone to lean on—someone to hold the space while you catch your breath—is a game-changer. It’s a place where you don’t have to be the "strong one." You can just be you.

If you’re ready to set down the weight for a while, we’re here to help you carry it. Let’s celebrate your gains, process the heavy stuff, and find your balance again.

How you start your morning sets the "arc" for your entire day. If you’re tired of the afternoon crash, try these three science-backed shifts:

Sunlight First: Get outside within the first hour of waking. Even on a cloudy day, natural light tells your brain it’s time to be alert, setting your hormones and metabolism on the right path. ☀️

Hydrate with Electrolytes: You lose water while you sleep. A glass of water with a pinch of sea salt helps your neurons function better. Think of it as "fueling" your brain before you ask it to work. 💧

Delay the Caffeine: Try waiting 90–120 minutes after waking before your first cup. This allows your body to naturally clear out adenosine (the "sleepy" chemical) so you don't hit that 2:00 PM wall. ☕️

Small shifts in your morning routine can lead to big changes in your mental clarity and emotional stability. Which one will you try tomorrow?

While these protocols are backed by neuroscience, remember that every nervous system is unique. If you have a history of trauma, sometimes 'fasting' or 'caffeine' can feel like too much stimulation. Always listen to your body first—if it feels like 'too much,' it probably is. Start slow."

Ever feel like your emotions are "stuck" in your body?

EFT, or "Tapping," is a somatic tool that combines ancient acupressure with modern psychology. By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on a distressing thought, you send a calming signal directly to the amygdala (your brain’s alarm system).

Why it works: It’s a "bottom-up" approach. You aren't just talking about the stress; you are physically signaling to your nervous system that you are safe, even while the stress is present. It’s a powerful way to "down-regulate" in real-time.

The "Back to School" transition is often marketed as a time for new pencils and fresh starts. But for many children (and parents!), it’s a major nervous system event. 🎒✨

The shift from the freedom of summer to the structure of the classroom can trigger "big body sensations" and "flipped lids."

If your child is struggling, remember:

Behaviour is communication: If they are acting out, they aren't being "bad"—they are likely dysregulated.

Co-regulation is key: Your calm is their anchor. Before you try to "fix" their behaviour, focus on regulating your own nervous system first by planting your own two feet on the ground, taking a nice deep breath and then and connecting with your calm presence. Explore with compassionate curiosity: How are they feeling and what do they need?

Name it to Tame it: Help them label their feelings. "I see you're feeling nervous about the new teacher. That makes sense."

You don't need to be a perfect parent; you just need to pause to regulate and connect - your calm and connected presence is one of the greatest resources to guide their nervous system to a state of greater balance. 🤍

There is nothing quite like the moment a client moves from "I'm stuck" to "I'm accomplishing something."

We recently worked through a session filled with blocks—the kind that feel purely cognitive and impossible to move. But when we shifted to a somatic, trauma-informed approach, the "wow" moment happened.

The relief wasn't just in their words; it was in their body.

Healing isn't always a straight line. Sometimes it’s messy, sometimes it’s blocked, and sometimes it’s a sudden, beautiful shift. If you’ve been feeling stuck, please know: the breakthrough is possible. You just need the right tools to get there. 🤍

Ever feel like you’ve "flipped your lid"? 🧠✋

When we’re overwhelmed, we lose access to our "thinking brain" (the prefrontal cortex) and get stuck in our "reactive brain" (the amygdala).

The Hand-Brain Model:

The Base (Wrist/Palm): The brainstem (survival/autonomic functions).

The Middle (Thumb): The limbic system (emotions/security guard).

The Fingers (Folded over): The prefrontal cortex (logic/reason/planning).

When emotions get too big, we "flip our lid"—the fingers go up, and we lose our ability to plan, organize, or stay calm. The goal of therapy? Strengthening that "higher-order" brain to talk back to the scared, reactive part—just like you’d nurture a frightened child.

We are wired to move. When we’re stuck in a loop of anxiety or fear, a mindful walk can shift our entire affective state. I did this just today... with all that has been happening in the region following flooding it is easy for our self-care to slip as a priority. Yet this is also one of the things that helps us to rejuvinate.

Try the 5-Senses Walk:

See: Notice the colours and shapes around you.
Hear: Listen to the wind, the birds, or your own footsteps.
Smell: Breathe in the air—what does nature smell like today?
Taste: Observe any subtle tastes in the air.
Touch: Feel your feet on the ground and the air on your skin.
You don't need to go far. Even a walk around the block or sitting on your porch can help you integrate your senses and bring your brain back to the present moment.

Lori’s Holistic Perspective: While these protocols are backed by neuroscience, remember that every nervous system is unique. If you have a history of trauma, sometimes 'fasting' or 'caffeine' can feel like too much stimulation. Always listen to your body first—if it feels like 'too much,' it probably is. Start slow.
