Did you know that Wheelchair Rugby—originally nicknamed "Murderball"—was invented in 1977 by a group of Canadian athletes in Winnipeg? They wanted an alternative to wheelchair basketball that allowed players with reduced arm and hand function to compete on an even playing field.

The Mix: It’s a high-octane blend of basketball, handball, and ice hockey.
The Gear: Athletes use custom-made manual wheelchairs designed to withstand heavy impacts (and yes, the "clashing" is half the fun!).
