Will your children need to walk home alone from the bus stop this fall? Or maybe will be spending a few hours after school alone before you're home from work? Maybe they're going to be watching some neighbourhood kids and could use the babysitters course to prepare them?

The Red Cross home alone & babysitters courses are for youth ages 9-15 and teaches the important skills of building confidence and independence while learning how to respond to everyday situations & emergencies, basic first aid, childcare and leadership.

Home Alone Course: (Ages 9-13)

Oh My Garden!
I grow a lot of lettuce because we eat a lot of lettuce šŸ„¬. No meal is complete without a side salad šŸ„—, my favorite is fresh lettuce topped with crumbled feta, roasted sliced almonds and my homemade basil and honey dressing (the dressing is so good I can bribe my instructors to teach more classes with itšŸ¤­)
My lettuce bed is my most productive bed, and yet it requires the least of my attentionšŸ‘€!
I have up cycled some vinyl blinds to lay on top of my dirt and just cut holes in it and dug out the holes to drop my lettuce pods in. Succession planting is a must for lettuce beds, I always have seedlings on the go in small pots ready to pop into the bed when thereā€™s room.
This bed requires no weeding, which I appreciate and less water, which Mother Nature appreciates, I use a slow release ground fertilizer that feeds each plant no matter how many times I replant them.
Fresh, live lettuce is like summer tomatoes, and when you go back to store bought produce, your taste buds are insulted by your choicešŸ¤¬
In the summer grow your own, itā€™s easy, rewarding and delicious; in the winter get your live lettuce at Slegers Greens; itā€™s local, delicious and does your body good to eat fresh live greens when we arenā€™t getting as much šŸŒž

(Home Alone) Course is designed for youth ages 9ā€“13 and teaches important safety, responsibility, and basic first aid skills for staying home alone safely. The course helps children build confidence and independence while learning how to respond to everyday situations and emergencies.

Babysitters Course: (Ages 11-15)

DATE: Friday September 25th
COST: $95 per child
INCLUDES: Manual & Completion Certificate & Pizza Dinner
COURSE DETAILS: The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course is designed for youth ages 11ā€“15 and teaches the skills needed to safely care for children and infants. you know that hard to reach spot in your garden that you can never get weeded or that corner of your yard that nothing grows; POTATO BAGS !!!
Potatoes are so easy to grow and these bags, eliminate weeding and digging!
I started mine early and started harvesting them late, July.
Just cover your seed potatoes and water regularly they are not needy plants just make sure you keep them covered otherwise they will be sunburntšŸ„µ
As you can see, Macy and Sophie are slacking off a little, their summer job has be exhausting apparently !

Tomatoe - tomaato! No matter how you say it; when you slice it, you taste summer šŸŒžļæ¼
My tomatoes are on the small side this year, but theyā€™re still delicious and juicy. I start my tomato seeds early March and keep clipping off their tops to make them bush out and grow a hardy root system; I had my first ripe tomato in mid July!
ļæ¼The word tomato comes from the Nahuatl word, meaning ā€œthe swelling fruitā€ļæ¼
(good to know if you ever find yourself on Jeopardy šŸ¤£) This nightshade plant can provide you with 28% of your daily recommended vitamin C intake with just one medium sized tomatošŸ…and as you can see; Sophie and Macy are always monitoring the perimeter for bunniesā¤ļø

Oh My Garden!
I donā€™t grow a lot of flowers, but the ones I do are kind of outstandingā˜ŗļø.
I germinate my petunia seeds on top of the soil in January in the hot humid pool house. By March, theyā€™re ready to move into a pot of their own and in late May I have blooms.
I fertilize the petunias with every third watering (ļæ¼ they need to eat if they want to grow bigšŸ˜‰)
My favorite petunia is called Evening Scentsations; they are blue and have a clean crisp floral scentšŸ„°
Sophie and Macy keep the bunnies out of my gardens, so they wanted an honorable mention in my GLOG (Garden Blog)šŸ¤­

Letā€™s go Glencoe!

Thank you to all the mermaids at Southwest Middlesex Pool that went over the deep end with Malyn & I today! Kudos to the 8am class - the early bird gets the worm (or as the case was this morning: the frog!) Mother Nature saved the 4pm class from wave pools but I think we all had a good workout anyways!

Special thanks to Scrivens who invited us to train the life guards for aqua fit using the over the deep end method! šŸ˜‰
