A tick bite does not automatically mean you need a Lyme disease test.

Remove it with fine-tipped tweezers, pulling straight up. Do not twist, crush, or cover it with petroleum jelly. Preventive antibiotics may be considered only in specific situations and within a limited time window. Watch for an expanding rash, fever, headache, fatigue, or muscle and joint aches. Testing is not always useful immediately, so follow-up matters. Seek urgent care for severe symptoms.
