Volunteer Spotlight: Anna Bosgra

Anna is this year’s DIGA Volunteer of the Year and recipient of the George Shipley Award.

She’s been part of both DIGA and BCMOS programs, spending time in the garden and out on the water.

Originally introduced to the Disability Foundation through a friend, she saw volunteering as a way to give back while gaining experience toward her future. She’ll be starting nursing school this fall.

“At the DIGA garden we were able to grow a flourishing jalapeño plant. A week after we harvested it one of the gardeners came back with jalapeño cheddar scones and shared them with the group, which was such a rewarding way to enjoy the garden.” — Anna

“I honestly wish I had known about the Disability Foundation years ago… volunteering with BCMOS was a great way to enjoy something I hadn’t done in years. DIGA taught me lots about gardening and I hope to keep volunteering.”

Thank you, Anna, for being part of the community.

National Volunteer Week 2026 is here.
From April 19 to 25, we’re taking time to recognize the people who support our programs and make this work possible.
This year’s theme, Ignite Volunteerism, highlights how volunteering continues to shape communities across Canada. At the Disability Foundation and our societies, we see that impact every day through the time, skills, and care our volunteers bring.
Whether it’s building assistive devices, supporting adaptive programs, or helping behind the scenes, each contribution makes a real difference.
Thank you to all our volunteers for everything you do.
Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing a few volunteer stories from across our organizations.
