The 7 stages of joining a gym....

1. 😃 September 1….“Summer is over, it’s time to get fit“
2. 🤔 Tries every machine once.
3. 😬 Watches everyone else to figure out what they’re doing.
4. 😓 Can’t sit down after leg day.
5. 🧺 Exercise bike becomes a laundry rack.
6. 📺 Starts researching workouts instead of doing them.
7. 💪 Meets Meagan Steeves… and finally has a plan!

Sometimes working out at home is better for some people. Meagan Steeves is our Kinesiologist, and she’s the one you want to see. She’s been a Kin for nearly 10 years and we’ve been lucky to have her as part of the team for 2 years now!

The First Step: We’ve tried to make things as easy as possible for those of you that just know you need to work on your strength, balance and flexibility.

All YOU need to do is book an assessment with Meagan. All SHE needs to know is:
what you have at home (balls, bands, weights , mat)
how long you want to commit to a session (20 mins, 30 mins…)
what your goals are (balance, flexibility, strength, better posture)

The Second Step: Sometimes this can be a “One and Done“ visit. But often a follow up is suggested. Accountability is a great motivator! Plus she can add, subtract or update your program.

The Final Step: You’ve created a sustainable routine. Go you!

Think about it. Then give us a call!

Meet the “exercise snack.”

Exercise snacks are short bursts of movement sprinkled throughout your day — usually just a few minutes at a time.

Think:
• Squats while brushing your teeth
• Calf raises while waiting for the kettle
• 5 minutes of stairs
• A brisk 10-minute walk
• A few push-ups against the kitchen counter
• Standing up and sitting down 10 times before you leave your chair

These little bursts may seem insignificant, but they add up — helping maintain strength, mobility, balance and cardiovascular fitness. And perhaps the best part? There’s no changing clothes.

No gym bag.

No finding an hour in your day.

Just look for little opportunities to move more. Exercise doesn’t always need to be a workout. Sometimes it can be a snack. 😉

“I’m dizzy.”

As physiotherapists, we hear this almost every day.

But one of our first questions is:

“Can you describe exactly what you feel?”

That answer tells us a lot.

If you’re feeling lightheaded, faint, or generally unsteady, that’s usually dizziness.

If it feels like you or the room is spinning, that’s vertigo—and it often points to an inner ear problem rather than a brain problem.

The good news? One of the most common causes of vertigo, called BPPV, is highly treatable. Many people improve after just one or two vestibular physiotherapy treatments.

Hidden deep inside your inner ear is one of the most remarkable systems in your body—your balance centre.

When it isn’t working properly, you may notice:
• Vertigo
• Dizziness
• Motion sensitivity
• Poor balance
• Feeling “off”

Many people are surprised to learn that physiotherapists can treat these problems.

Sometimes all it takes is the right assessment and a customized treatment plan to get your world steady again.
