We’ve arrived home from exploring the North Island a day early after Bodhi became sick overnight in our Westfalia van.

A bowel blockage (from sand… seriously?! 🤦🏼‍♀️) had us thinking the worst, but thankfully it has resolved without surgery.

Today he’s been doing what he loves most… soaking up lots of snuggles.

More adventure photos and stories to come, but for now we’re just incredibly grateful.

Hug your fur babies a little tighter tonight, friends. ❤️

Yesterday I was invited to join a thoughtful gathering of women who care deeply about women’s health and well-being.

I left feeling energized, and one idea has stayed with me.

After more than 26 years working in women’s health, I couldn’t feel more aligned with the importance of supporting women across every stage of life.

As both a clinician and the mother of a teenage daughter, I’ve seen that when we invest in women, we’re strengthening families and communities.

There is something meaningful about gathering around a table with people who are willing to speak honestly, listen thoughtfully, and explore important questions together.

Conversations like these remind me that some of our most important work begins by listening and learning from one another.

As we were leaving, each of us was gifted a copy of “Health for All” by Dr. Jane Philpott.

I’m looking forward to diving in.

Driving home this afternoon, I’m feeling so much gratitude.

This summer marks two years of gathering each month with elders, staff and community members from the Songhees Nation. Looking back, I’m struck by the relationships that have grown over that time and what a gift it has been to practice together.

Every gathering is different. People come when they can, as they are, carrying whatever life has brought since we were last together.

Sometimes there is laughter. Sometimes there are tears.

This week, we also held space for another recent loss in the community. There were reflections on the many ways grief moves through us and how people are tending to their tenderized hearts.

I’m continually moved by the courage of people to show up so honestly, the heartfelt sharing, the deep listening, and the gentle way everyone holds space for one another. I leave each gathering feeling so grateful to be part of these circles.

Yesterday we gathered for the final Mini Mindfulness Retreat of the spring series.

One of the things I love about arriving each month is opening the door to the beauty awaiting at the Helga Beer Studio. It always feels like such a welcoming space to gather and practice together.

We’ll be taking a pause for the summer and I look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Upcoming Mini Mindfulness Retreats
• September 27
• November 1
• December 13

Retreat Reflections 1/7

It’s been two weeks since I left Maui after three weeks in silence. I’m grateful for all that was experienced, and I’m still noticing what that time clarified.

Retreat and quiet reflection have a way of showing us what we’re still carrying that no longer serves us.

Sometimes moving forward begins with putting a few things down.

Hurt feelings.
Anger.
Disappointment.
Moments of feeling misunderstood, offended, or sad about how things unfolded.

But once something is set down, and a boundary becomes clear, space opens.

Right before retreat, I came across this line:

Stop choosing what isn’t choosing you.

That sentence has stayed with me.
And it still feels true.

Since coming home, there’s been a softening and a settling in me, and a quiet excitement about what is beginning to take shape.

Over the next while, I’ll be sharing a few reflections from retreat. Some tender, some surprising, a few that made me laugh out loud.

This is the first.

Heading into an annual three week silent retreat, self-guided and offline.

This time is restorative and reflective, not always easy…but always worthwhile. A chance to listen more deeply.

Grateful for the family and colleagues who make space for me to step away, and for the steady, wholehearted friends who simply show up.

I dropped off these beautiful flowers in appreciation yesterday. What a blessing to have dear friends who don’t step away when things are uncomfortable. And who are consistent, grounded, and trustworthy.

My heart feels full ❤️

Back in a few weeks.
