I am briefly pausing booking in new clients (with the exception of Wynyard, Wadena and Foam Lake long term care residents and residents of WENEEDA Park Lodge) for the month of July due to an influx of new clients over these past several months. Wow! How incredible to be at maximum booking. This means members of our community are prioritizing their foot care health, an incredibly important piece of our overall health that must not be overlooked. I am currently a one nurse practice operating at more than full time hours.

I am so grateful for you putting your trust in me as your advanced foot care nurse!

As a licensed medical professional, it is important to not only allow appropriate time for assessments/ appointments, documentation, patient education and sterilization of equipment/tools- but also the behind the scenes administration work of owning your own business. This has lead me to briefly pause booking in new clients for the month of July.

If you do require advanced foot care advices do not worry! Although I am unable to take any new clients at this time, I can direct you to another licensed advanced foot care nurse in your area so please feel free to reach out!

Once again, thank you for your continued support and trusting me as your licensed medical provider. I love my role as an advanced foot care nurse!

Thank you all so much for your patience as I navigate an extremely busy month of foot care. Booking in new appointments takes time as I must wait for one client to confirm their date and time before I move on to the next. Each client may take a day or so to get back to me… Keep that in mind if you are waiting on a call back. Again, I appreciate you all!

Foot care nurse hat officially off for today and sandals on as I head out on a little Saskatchewan adventure. Time for some R & R!

I want to take a moment to express my genuine gratitude for my clients- both returning and new- who put your trust in me as your advanced footcare nurse. My practice has grown substantially- and that is because of you. I love my role as an advanced footcare nurse, and there is no better feeling than to see my dream of making this into a full time career a reality.

June will be one of my busiest months to date- closing out with just under 100 advanced footcare appointments 👣👣👣

After a full day of seeing our clients, footcare nurses have another two plus hours of work sterilizing our equipment once our clinical day is finished. Expect safe, professional care from an advanced footcare nurse. Pricing of your appointment reflects that. Sterilization is an important piece of your appointment and is required by licensed professionals. A lot of work goes into your appointment behind the scenes to ensure you receive educated, safe and professional foot care services.

So what goes into sterilizing foot care instruments?

If using reusable tools - you must purchase an autoclave & incubator- plus many other supplies

What some of the process includes daily:
Cleaning , inspecting , drying , packaging ,autoclaving , live virus 🦠 testing , labelling , documenting , storing of the tools

&

Daily Quality Assurance:
📋 Check and document autoclave operation
📋 Check distilled water level and refill as required
📋 Inspect chamber, trays, door gasket, and equipment condition
📋 Review sterilization records and load documentation
📋 Verify chemical indicators have passed & more

Biological Monitoring:
🧪 Biological Indicator (spore test) monitoring is performed according to policy and standards
🧪 A Process Challenge Device (PCD) is used during biological testing
🧪 A biological indicator test vial is processed through the autoclave
🧪 An unprocessed control vial is incubated alongside the test vial
🧪 Both vials are placed in an incubator and monitored for growth
🧪 Results are documented and retained as part of the sterilization records

Routine Maintenance:
📅 Daily cleaning and inspection of the autoclave
📅 Weekly chamber cleaning using approved autoclave cleaner
📅 Routine preventative maintenance according to Midmark manufacturer guidelines
📅 Documentation of maintenance, testing, and repairs & more

Products Used During Reprocessing:
• Enzymatic instrument cleaner
• Distilled water
• Sterilization pouches
• Class 5 chemical integrators
• Process Challenge Device (PCD)
• Biological indicator (spore test) vials
• Control vials
• Biological indicator incubator
• Steam sterilizer (autoclave) & more

💙 Sterilization is much more than putting tools in a machine. Every instrument undergoes cleaning, inspection, packaging, sterilization, monitoring, testing, documentation, and storage processes designed to meet IPAC standards and help ensure client safety.

A healthcare specialty exists when a certain area of the body or type of care requires additional focused education, training, skill, and experience beyond general training.

As healthcare became more advanced, it became impossible for one person to be an expert in everything; so specialties were created to improve safety, knowledge, prevention, and patient outcomes.

General nursing training teaches nurses how the entire body works; including anatomy, circulation, diabetes, infection control, medications, wound risks, assessment skills, emergency recognition, documentation, ethics, and safe patient care. Plus nursing interventions ie wound care, IVs, phlebotomy, medication administration, etc.

Foot Care Nursing is additional specialty training built on top of that nursing foundation. It focuses specifically on lower limb and foot health, including:

* Diabetic foot assessments
* Circulation and nerve testing
* Risk identification
* Prevention of ulcers and complications
* Specialized nail and skin care
* Sterilization and infection prevention standards
* Recognizing when medical referral is needed

You need to be a nurse first because feet are connected to overall health. A Foot Care Nurse is not just trimming nails.

We are assessing for signs of disease, circulation problems, infection, pressure injuries, neuropathy, and other medical concerns that can affect a person’s safety and health. 💙
