Some toenail problems may need professional foot care assessment.

Thickened, discoloured, painful, cracked, splitting, or difficult-to-trim toenails can affect comfort and safe nail maintenance. These concerns may be especially important for seniors, individuals with diabetes, or clients with circulation or sensation concerns.

Advanced Foot Care Nurse & Wellness Centre shares signs that a toenail concern may need professional care and why early support can help clients better understand their foot health.

🌞 Summer Heat and Swollen Legs

Chronically swollen legs (leg edema) can increase the risk of skin damage, including venous leg ulcers, which can be difficult to heal and may recur. 🩹

If you’ve been prescribed compression garments, it’s important to wear them consistently—even in hot weather.

💡 Tip: Open-toed compression stockings may feel cooler in summer and can also help reduce moisture buildup and athlete’s foot risk.

Toenail changes are easy to overlook, but they can be an important sign. 👣✨

Fungal toenail infections are a common foot health concern that may cause toenails to become thick, discoloured, brittle, or difficult to trim.

These changes can be frustrating to manage at home, especially for seniors, individuals with diabetes, or anyone who has difficulty caring for their feet safely.

Our latest article explains the common signs, possible causes, risk factors, and practical foot care tips to help support healthier toenails.

Friendly reminder- As a business of one person I do my best to organize my days the best I can- so it may take some time for me to respond to messages.

On average I work ten hour days (in which my hands are occupied doing advanced foot care appts for the duration) followed by 2 hours of sterilizing equipment once my clinical day is complete.

As I am the sole owner of my practice, aside from the above, I also have documentation/charting, ongoing education, invoicing, and all aspects of the administration end of my work as well. In an effort to have some balance in my days, I do not always respond to messages over the weekend/evenings as some downtime is necessary to prevent burnout. If I do not respond within a few days please resend your message. I appreciate your patience!

Thank you for your continued support and making my business such a success. The work we do as advanced foot care nurses is important, and part of your overall health. 👣👣👣

This picture was taken at my Continuing Care Aide graduation way back in 2007… which means I will soon be celebrating 20 years in health care…. The first 12 years as a CCA and the rest as an LPN/advanced foot care nurse. Time flies! The experience, growth, education and memories I’ve accumulated in almost twenty years in direct patient/resident care are immeasurable. Love what I do!
