📢 The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is reviewing practice learning to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to deliver safe, high-quality care.

As part of this, a UK-wide consultation is now open, focusing on improving the quality of practice learning and strengthening education standards.

NMC consultation: Practice Learning Review
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has opened a UK wide public consultation on proposed changes to nursing and midwifery education standards, with a strong focus on the quality of practice learning experiences.
The proposals have been informed by extensive engagement with students, professionals, educators and practice learning partners, and include consideration of:
• How practice learning can better support readiness for professional practice
• Proposed changes to programme hours
• Strengthening inclusion, anti racism and community based learning
NIPEC encourages nurses, midwives, students, educators, practice learning partners and stakeholders across Northern Ireland to take the opportunity to contribute their views.

Midwives play a vital role across maternity services, supporting safe, compassionate and high quality care at every stage of the childbearing journey. Their contribution to leadership, education, research and service improvement continues to strengthen outcomes for families and communities. On International Day of the Midwife, we recognise the dedication, skill and impact of the midwifery workforce and thank them for the invaluable work they do every day.

Celebrating Future Leaders in Northern Ireland 🎉 at the successful completion of the 2026 The Florence Nightingale Foundation: Northern Ireland Aspiring Directors Leadership Programme. This was such an inspiring event, listening to the Programme Graduates; and NI Chief Nursing Officer, Prof. Maria McIlgorm, Department of Health NI & Guest Speaker Prof Linda Kelly Chief Executive NIPEC & the leadership journey of Jincy Labade, Northern Health and Social Care Trust, participant on FNF Emerging Leaders Fellowship programme. An inspirational Day thanks Greta Westwood, FNF & all those who supported the individuals & their achievements on the programme. We enjoyed celebrating the success of this exceptional cohort and are looking forward to the future impact the programme graduates will have in HSC across Northern Ireland. 🌟
