Supporting learning difficulties and sharing moments….

Our time together is about doing things side by side.
Walking, swimming, group activities. She lights up when she’s part of it, and in the kitchen, she’s right there with me.

We picked ingredients at the shop, cut fruit together and prepared food.
Fresh fruit salad, homemade pizza to take home to her lovely family.

It’s about building confidence with every task.
That’s how skills grow, and how good days are made 💚 🌼

A good day isn’t always about ticking things off the list.

For two of my clients, the visit looks like this…

We sit. We talk. We reminisce about things I wasn’t around for, but still feel like I know.

I do have little jobs to take care of while I’m there, making tea, sorting a drawer, putting a wash on. But I don’t try to do both at once.
When it’s conversation time, it’s conversation time. They get my full attention.
When it’s task time, I handle that separately.

Loneliness needs a person who stays long enough to hear you, without half-listening 🩷

What does a good day look like with vascular dementia?

For us, it looks like this:

Roy Orbison on repeat in the car. Singing along, to every word and trying to hit those high notes!

Live music at the dementia club. Real connection with community. Clapping, smiling, tapping and laughing.

Avoncroft museum. Stopping to look, to point, to share a moment without needing the right words.

Sometimes the sentence fades before the end. But I know where she’s going. I wait, I listen, I meet her there.
Because a good day isn’t about getting everything said. It’s about feeling understood.

That’s what I’m here for.

If you’re supporting someone with vascular dementia, you’ll know, connection is everything. The rest is just detail. Always meet them where they are, not where you think they should be 💙 💛

Another month full of fun, laughter and engagement with awesome people!

Making the most of the few days of sunshine we’ve had in March/April, although it’s been chilly at times. Roll on the summer!!!

There’s been…

National trust visits 🏰
Church tours ⛪️
Baking 🎂
Swimming 🏊‍♀️
Shopping 🛍️
Planting 🪴
Bowling 🎳
Moving well with Tash 💪
Dementia cafes ☕️
Feeding the ducks 🦆
Afternoon tea 🫖
Library visits 📚
Visits to different parks and lakes 🌳
Connecting with services 🔗
Doctors visits ⛑️
Supporting families 🫶
As usual the list is endless! Giving support where it’s needed and making plenty of special moments!! ♥️

(As usual, the best photos of these awesome people are saved for them and their families to enjoy). 😉

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter 🐣

An amazing amount of activities going on again this month….

We’ve been bowling ……Striiiiike 🎳

We’ve been creative 🎨

We’ve been socialising ☕️ 💃🕺🏼

We’ve been sitting on a bench in the sun watching the ducks 🦆

We’ve been to the arcades 🎰

We’ve been swimming 🏊‍♀️

We’ve been puzzling 🧩

We’ve been exercising 💪

We’ve been shopping, playing chess, going to the library, attending dementia groups, visiting our friends at Care Homes, walking around garden centres, drinking tea and coffee and eating cake. There’s been so much more, but there’s not enough time to write it all on here!!

What an absolute delight to be ‘doing’ all these things with wonderful people. Making every visit count. Making every day the best it can be 🫶

February's been a bit of a soggy one, but we've made the most of it, finding fun indoors and grabbing the odd dry spell for a walk or two.

With my lovely M we’ve been keeping busy with group meetups, Memory Cafes, live music, cooking, baking and a few trips out for coffee. Plus the church tours which she loves.

One client's been doing rehabilitation after a long hospital stay, working on getting back to her old self physically and emotionally. She’s doing great and I’m so happy to be able to support her.

Another lady's absolutely thriving. We do fitness activities, group socials, gym, and swimming. She even won a medal last week! I’m so proud of her for giving new things a try.

A particularly special trip out to McDonald’s with my lovely Mr A. With his mobility not being so good but the need to get out for a drive, we chose to have a McDonald’s drive through Happy Meal! This may seem like a simple thing but it clearly meant so much to him.

Can't wait for spring and summer, we've got loads planned, and it'll be great to get outdoors more (hopefully!).

Lovely wintery activities going on this week. There’s been homemade vegetable soup made by the lovely K! She loved getting involved with the cooking and eating of this soup!

There was also slow cooked chicken casserole made with my lovely M. This was especially good for her daughter to come home to after a long day at work!

Brushing up on skills and learning new ones! Shopping, preparing, cooking, eating and providing! 🧑‍🍳 🥘 🍲

Giving purpose and achieving ❤️

Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope it’s filled with love and laughter.

🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

It’s been a fantastic build up throughout December with my clients. More Christmas trees than you can shake a stick at. Baking, walking, games, music, shopping and lots of festive fun.

Feeling blessed to do something I love with brilliant people that are truly special ♥️

Our own wreath making class!!

We loved making our own Christmas Wreaths. This was a great activity for my client and she could take her very own wreath home for her family to enjoy.
