This is fascinating!! Literally the entrance to rooted is steeped in history, not to mention the inside! I love pondering who was here before 😍 what a pleasure it is to have Burford Tolsey Archive bringing history to our lives. Thank you for sharing.

This is at the entrance to George Yard. The handrail is a much later addition. It is an Ostler's seat. The George Inn ostlers would sit here looking straight down Witney Street. They would be forewarned as to when the next stagecoach was approaching and then could mobilise the grooms etc to take care of horses and passengers. I must have walked past this piece of history many times in ignorance. Every day's a school day.
