This June, Lead Nurse, Rabab Flack from Causeway Clear Ears will be found with her head in the books - when not in Clinic, as she is undertaking a Post-Graduate Diploma in Neurotology - the science of inner ear & balance disorders.

During this Diploma she will be building on her already established professional knowledge base of different pathologies of the Vestibular System (Balance)

At Causeway Clear Ears, our Specialist Nurses are qualified to assess and treat children experiencing a range of common ear conditions, including:

👂 What is Glue Ear?

Glue Ear (medical term: Otitis Media with Effusion) occurs when fluid or mucus becomes trapped behind the eardrum. This can prevent the eardrum from vibrating properly, resulting in reduced hearing.

We commonly see Glue Ear in children because the Eustachian Tube (the tube connecting the middle ear to the back of the nose) is still developing. This can make it more difficult for fluid to drain naturally. Combined with the coughs, colds and runny noses that are common during childhood, fluid can build up and affect hearing.

In some cases, Glue Ear may even contribute to children failing their P1 hearing screening test.

“I was in considerable pain when Rabab, the lead nurse, removed very stubborn hardened wax from my left ear. She was extremely professional and managed to clear my ear without causing any pain at all. Rabab was also able to identify an infection in my right ear. Rather than simply prescribing ear drops and sending me on my way, she carefully removed some of the infected fluid first, allowing the drops to reach the correct area more effectively and help clear the infection quicker, enabling my hearing to return. Thank you, Rabab.”
