It was a packed final day for our Czech visitors 🙂

A big shout out to everyone who hosted them and shared some of the amazing work going on in Scotland! Special thanks to our friends at Edge Group Scotland, Tracey and her team at Enable, Caroline at The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, and the Business Growth and Talent Development team at The City of Edinburgh Council - "inspiring" was the word that kept being used.

And with the amazing weather it would have been criminal not to make time for a stop off in Portobello!

Our visitors head home today with a lot to think about and strong connections with people and services here. We wish them all the very best and haste ye back 🙂 Abakus

It was a pleasure to welcome ARC Scotland and the visiting delegation from the Czech Republic to Edge yesterday as part of their Scottish study visit exploring transitions and support for disabled young adults. 🇨🇿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We were proud to share more about our programmes, accredited outcomes, and how real-world learning and community experiences support confidence, independence, and positive destinations for the young adults we support.

A huge thank you to ARC Scotland for including us in such an important and collaborative visit — and we hope everyone enjoyed seeing our campus, including Edge Woods, in the extremely rare Scottish sunshine! ☀️

🌍 Empowering Transitions: A Cross-Border Collaboration 🌍

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome a delegation of 22 strategic leads and frontline practitioners from the Czech Republic to Scotland this week! 🇨🇿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Funded by the Abakus Foundation—an organisation dedicated to driving positive change in Czech society—this study visit is a fantastic opportunity to share insights, learning, and best practices on how we manage transitions for young people with additional support needs.

On Monday, the ARC Scotland team hosted the group in Edinburgh for an inspiring day of knowledge-sharing. We had a stellar lineup of speakers, including:

• The Scottish Government team responsible for the National Transitions Strategy
• Education Scotland
• VOCAL (Voice of Carers Across Lothian)
• InControl Scotland
• The Divergent Influencers
• Incredible insights from parents and carers who share their lived experiences.

This visit is a true team effort, and the learning doesn’t stop there. Over the next few days, the delegation will be hitting the road to see frontline practice in action.

A massive shout out and thank you to all the organisations, local authorities, and providers who are opening their doors and sharing their expertise:

🙌 Falkirk Council 🙌 City of Edinburgh Council's Business Growth and Development team 🙌 Forth Valley College 🙌 Skills Development Scotland 🙌 Falkirk Neighbourhood Networks 🙌 Autistic 'n' Awesome 🙌 Dates-n-Mates 🙌 D2 Art Centre 🙌 Willow Tree Performing Arts Group 🙌 Key Housing 🙌 Enable Cares 🙌 The Richmond Fellowship Scotland 🙌 Edge Group Scotland

International collaboration like this reminds us that while our systems might differ, our shared goal remains the same: ensuring every young person with additional support needs has the right support, opportunities, and voice as they transition into adulthood.

Follow along this week as we share updates from the study tour!

Navigating life after school can be a daunting journey for families of young people with additional support needs, but having the right support in one place makes all the difference. 🌟

Recently, Redburn School and Mavisbank High School—which provide vital education for young people with severe and complex additional support needs in North Lanarkshire—hosted their Annual Transition Fair.

The event brought together essential third-sector organisations and local services, including:
- Contact, GCIL, and the North Lanarkshire Disability Forum
- Get Active & North Lanarkshire Advocacy
- The North Lanarkshire Social Work Transition Team

Why events like this matter: Instead of searching through endless resources online, parents and carers were able to get face-to-face information from real people. It allowed families to establish early relationships with social work teams to make future assessment processes much smoother.

We were also incredibly proud to present the Compass tool to families! 🧭 This digital tool ensures that all this vital information can be found in one single, accessible place. Get Compass today! Link in comments 👇

Parents and carers of young people with additional support needs, do you feel overwhelmed by the "transition maze"?
You are definitely not alone. 🧭

The latest national data from Compass report shows:
❌ 93% of parents and carers don't know their entitlements during transitions.
❌ 74% are unsure of post-school learning opportunities.
❌ Only 11% know how to exercise their legal rights.

If you feel unsure, you aren't "unprepared"—you just haven't been given the right tools yet.

Compass is changing that with accurate, up-to-date guidance.
Move from "I don't know" to "I have a plan." 💪
