🌿✨ Movement is not just about exercise… it is also a gentle act of care for our mental wellbeing πŸ’›

Our minds and bodies are deeply connected 🀍
The way we think and feel can affect our physical health, and the way we move and care for our bodies can have a powerful impact on our emotional wellbeing too.

When we move, even in small and gentle ways, our bodies release natural feel good chemicals that can help:
🌸 Reduce stress
🌸 Ease anxiety
🌸 Lift our mood
🌸 Improve focus and energy
🌸 Create feelings of calm and balance

Movement does not have to mean intense workouts or hours at the gym. Sometimes the smallest moments can make the biggest difference ✨

πŸ’ƒ Dancing around the kitchen
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ A peaceful walk in nature
🧘 Gentle stretching in the morning
🌼 Gardening in the sunshine
🎢 Moving to your favourite music
🌈 Taking a few mindful breaths while you walk

Every little movement matters.

It is not about perfection, pressure, or comparison. It is about listening to your body and giving yourself the kindness, care, and compassion you deserve πŸ’š

Even on difficult days, one small movement can be a gentle reminder that you are supporting both your body and your mind 🌱✨

So tell us… what is your favourite way to move your body and support your wellbeing? πŸ’›πŸ‘‡

✨ What an incredible evening! ✨

Last night we had the privilege of attending the Derby Volunteer Sector Awards, a truly inspiring celebration of the amazing people who give their time, energy and kindness to make a difference across our city.

We are absolutely delighted to share that Aisha was honoured with the Overcoming Barriers Award. To receive this recognition was both humbling and emotional, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported her journey along the way.

The evening was filled with remarkable individuals, volunteers, community groups and organisations who work tirelessly behind the scenes to improve the lives of others. Being surrounded by so many people who choose to give their time freely to support their communities was a powerful reminder that there is so much goodness in the world.

While it was wonderful to celebrate Aisha's achievement, the real highlight was hearing the stories of resilience, compassion and dedication from people across Derby. Every nominee and every winner represented the very best of our city.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us, volunteered alongside us, partnered with us, encouraged us and believed in our vision. Achievements like this are never the work of one person alone.

A special thank you to the organisers, sponsors and everyone involved in creating such a memorable evening. Derby should be incredibly proud of its volunteers and community champions.

Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners. It was an honour to celebrate with you all. πŸ’›

🌧️ Anxiety & Depression – Storm to Sound πŸŽ΅πŸ’›

Some days can feel emotionally heavy…
Racing thoughts, low energy, overwhelming feelings, and a world that feels difficult to explain to others.

During those moments, music can become more than just sound. 🎧
It can bring comfort, quiet the mind, ease loneliness, and create a small space to breathe again.

A single song can:
✨ Slow anxious minds
✨ Bring emotional release
✨ Create feelings of safety and connection
✨ Remind us we are not alone

Healing is not always loud or dramatic. 🌱
Sometimes healing looks like sitting quietly with your headphones on, giving yourself permission to pause for a moment of peace.

Even the darkest storms can soften with light, comfort, music, and self-care. β˜€οΈπŸ’›

🎢 Music & Neurodivergence 🧠🌿

Did you know that music can play a powerful role in supporting neurodivergent wellbeing?

Research has shown that music may help support:
πŸ’™ Emotional regulation
🎧 Focus and concentration
πŸŒ€ Sensory regulation
πŸ’ƒ Movement and coordination
😌 Relaxation and stress reduction
🧩 Communication and self-expression

For many neurodivergent people, music is more than entertainment. It can become a tool for comfort, routine, grounding, creativity, and connection. Studies exploring autism and ADHD have found that rhythm, repetition, and personalised music experiences may help support attention, mood, movement, and emotional processing.

Some people may find music calming and regulating, while others use it for energy, focus, dopamine, motivation, or emotional release.

🌿 Things you might explore:
🎡 Instrumental music for focus or studying
🎡 Nature sounds or slow rhythms for relaxation
🎡 Rhythmic music for movement and motivation
🎡 Noise-cancelling headphones for sensory comfort
🎡 Creating playlists for different moods or tasks
🎡 Repetitive or familiar songs for grounding and predictability

Research also highlights how personalised music can help autistic individuals with emotional regulation and self-connection.

Most importantly:
✨ What works for one person may not work for another.
Music is deeply personal, and finding supportive sounds can be part of understanding yourself with compassion.

🌼✨ Wrapping Up Mirthful May ✨🌼

As Mirthful May comes to a close, we just want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us throughout this joyful month πŸ’›

Sometimes it’s found in:

🌸 A gentle act of kindness

Mirthful May has been a celebration of finding lightness in everyday life and recognising that even small moments of joy can have a powerful impact on our wellbeing πŸ’«
